Apple just released a utility called Boot Camp. With it, the REAL Windows XP can be installed on an Intel Mac alongside OSX. You can select which OS you want during startup. So when they say the “Windows version of Photoshop”, it is meant literally.
I agree with everyone else here. Video editors generally don’t need turbo-charged Photoshop performence. The PowerPC version is just fine on an Intel Mac. But if for some reason you do need power Photoshopping, and you need to physically do it on your Mac Book, then the Windows version is the only solution.

Yes it works with full-size DVCam tapes. No card needed. It’s a firewire deck. Don’t buy it on my advice. I don’t own one (nobody does since it’s not out yet). Do your own research and look into it.

People can argue over what the best way is until the cows come home. But adding more options in the User Preferences to allow the individual the choice doesn’t hurt anyone. This is a pro application. They should never be concerned with having too many options in the prefences for fear that it may look too intimidating.

I think it is supposed to function just fine using Rossetta. It just won’t be very fast.

You may be able to edit this stuff if you first convert it to 2k film resolution (which is 2048 x 1556) using After Effects, Compressor, or even Quicktime Pro. The aspect ratio is different, so it will be distorted (stretched) during the editing phase if you can live with that. Then when you are finished editing, convert the final piece back to 1920×1440.
I haven’t worked with 2k on Final Cut, but I did notice that the latest Blackmagic Design drivers added 2k Easy Setups. This suggests that FCP now supports 2k.

Ok, first off, the Y/C from the Radeon card is not a broadcast output. Far from it.
As for capturing, many people say that letting the deck do the 4:2:2 conversion is better than capturing Firewire. However, it has been demonstrated that if you capture Firewire and apply the 4:1:1 chroma smoothing filter, you can achieve the same quality as you would SDI capture.
As for what VTR to get, I’d reccomend wating a short while for these models to start shipping:

You mean move your preferences from FCP 5 and move it to FCP 4? No, I don’t think that will work and I wouldn’t try it even it it could. Honestly, there aren’t exactly a lot of settings for FCP. It’ll take you 5 minutes to set them again.

Correction. My previous post was based on you trying to capture and perform 3:2 pulldown over SDI using either a Blackmagic or Kona card.
It sounds to me like you are doing 3:2:2:3 Advanced Pulldown Removal. This is NOT the same thing as 3:2 pulldown removal (which is 3:2:3:2 as opposed to 3:2:2:3). If your footage has 3:2 Pulldown, you do NOT use that feature. Advanced Pulldown is different. It is a rare feature found in certain DV Prosumer cameras in which Final Cut can intelligently remove it and make it 24p. I’ve never worked with it, but it’s explained clearly in the manual.
To remove regular 3:2 pulldown, I believe you just need to put the footage on a 23.98 timeline, line up the A frame to 00 frames on the sequence, and export a self contained.

Yes it does work but it has limitations. The source tape must have continuous cadance. So if the show had earlier been edited at 29.97, you’re outta luck.
Also, you must properly identify the A frame and set your in point at the A frame (1:00:00:00 should do it 99% of the time).
You also need to be cautions using pulldown. You cannot batch re-capture only select portions of footage. So you pretty much need to capture your footage at full quality. “Delete Unused Media” in Media Manager will not be possible if you are using 3:2 pulldown.
If these limitations prevent you from working in 23.98p, then I would look into getting a Teranex.

Nothing. Gotta start from scratch. Sorry. I know it sucks. OSX’s only major flaw is the lack of a managable way to uninstall software.
