many thanks for all this help people, but i must be really stupid. i’m a long time AE user so i’m finding it really hard to find the right way to do this: all i want to do is fade between 2 displacement maps, both using the noise bitmaps. the John Castarphan tutorial touches on this but he moves so fast through i keep missing it… argh! is there a beginners dumb ass tutorial on how to layer up textures and key frame the opacity between them?

  • hi, this is exactly what i’ve been looking for… could i ask you to you break this first part (how to layer the imported textures) down so i can follow it step by step? please excuse my ignorance, i’m having problems getting the layers to stack up.. they keep replacing each other. version 11.5

fixed it: Audio Hardware preferences and Audio Output Mapping. chose built-in line out. (for external speakers) although why it worked in scrub mode is beyond me. many thanks for your help chaps.

    thanks for your swift reply.
and thank you, yes i know how to do a RAM preview… i figured that one out about 1996.

as i said before, i have audio when i scrub, but not on RAM preview. i can see the audio levels move and i have the waveform, but no output, unless i render to a movie. anyone else come across this problem in CS4? i noticed a lot of audio problem posts about changing the media cache…

thanks. i was thinking of that, but i’ve got approx 50 different instances of text with blinking periods to do, so that’s 50+ layers to deal with… any ideas how to change the opacity of just the period using the text effect controls? i couldn’t figure out how to isolate the period.
