Here is what we did to fix this:

We have two hard drives on our machine– one is for Media 100 that is a mirror of the hard drive for FCP —
(this because the FCP hard drive uses the Kona software, where Media 100 hard drive uses internal Media 100 software for the same Kona card)

Our QT 7.4 update was only on the FCP hard drive side —

So, I erased the FCP drive & reinstalled the OS —
transferred applications & settings from the Media 100 hard drive– did OS upgrades – installed the Kona software
installed QT 7.3 and I’m up and running again —
yes, it took 6 hrs but I couldn’t afford to be down
another day.

I have done my original AE render’s and we have had no problems to report.

We have one edit station that did the QT 7.4 upgrade and we are experiencing the same reported problems – we have tried to un-install 7.4 and re-install QT 7.3 but we keep getting a red flag on the re-install saying that the hard drive has a newer version installed, even when we have trashed everything QT. We think that the install is seeing QT components tied to the Pro App’s bundle.
We are now going to try re-installing FCP and see how that goes.

Anyone know a better way?

I edit mainly in the studio (one FCP and 4 Avid’s) and haven’t upgraded my home system from FCP 4.5 – as I waited to get the new Intel Mac, CS, FCP 2 and there was no real urge – just moved – new baby and I still can’t swing the G5 yet…

Now I have few side projects that people want to calibrate on and share sequences but were a mixed bag of FCP versions.
Its just DV mind you …

My FCP 4.5 pro bundle works DV just fine but I was duped by getting the Educational version when I was in school and didn’t know about the upgrade problem…
so I’m guessing I’m odd man out..

I have an Apple Power Macintosh G4/1.0 DP (Quicksilver 2002) features dual 1.0 GHz PowerPC 7450 or PowerPC 7455 (G4) processors each with the AltiVec “Velocity Engine” vector processing unit, 256k “on chip” level 2 cache, and 2 MB of DDR SDRAM level 3 backside cache
1.5 of RAM, an ATI Radeon 9800 pro graphics card with 128 MB of VRAM
