    Hi Peter,
Win 7/64 still using RED 32bit 5.1.5. Only happens with the client’s logo… saved it in CS6 and CS2, .png and .psd. Happened about a week ago, and I had been trying out Avid FX (64 bit) and After Effects CS6 around the same times. Did re-install, and moved the files’ location, no joy. Haven’t done support yet, I’m always looking for the intermediate solution so I avoid the “DOH” factor.

    best,
    Scott

Additional info: when trying to replace a graphic with itself in the ‘files missing’ dialog, selecting the original file results in “unable to change to the specified media”.

  • Thanks Jeremy, that makes perfect sense… now!
Why the nice people at Avid make you jump thru those hoops, I’ll never know.
For future reference, how do you look at the AAF in text view?

    Scott

  • Hi Peter,
Just wanted to let everyone know how good your customer service was yesterday. Jeremy called within minutes of your last post, took my project and sent it back to me in a form I could use. Deadline met, clients blissfully unaware.

Thanks again to all the folks at Boris!

  • Hi Peter,
No, this one started in the stand-alone. I still use the 32 bit because it will render QuickTime with alpha… still haven’t figured out how to render AVI with alpha.

I’ll send the project shortly. I have to get the four spots represented in this project finished by noon tomorrow, so please look quickly!

    best,
    Scott

QuickTime, with a list of compressors as long as my arm. RED 5 (32) has it, and that’s what I continue to use. Sadly, my Avid doesn’t import AVI files, nor can I render a file with an alpha channel. And I hate the idea of doing a Targa sequence.

Hi Peter, I’ve returned. Don’t cringe!

Just got the Media Composer 6.0 upgrade. Is it time to upgrade to a 64 bit version of Boris 5? Which one?

    best,
    Scott

  • Hi Peter, thanks for your understanding.

Yes, that labeling is really misleading. So I would I get any benefit out of using the 64 bit as a stand-alone engine? (Assuming I can get the .avi to render, trying that now) I’m really looking to speed up render times with lots of extruded text graphics… three hours per :30 seconds is rough.

  • And adding insult to injury, the RED5 User Guide insists on being opened in Internet Explorer… even when it’s being opened in Internet Explorer. 64 bit issue?

  • Hi Peter, here’s today’s update:

RED4.3 resave on Avid FX projects works for opening in RED5… but doesn’t recognize/import the quicktime movies used in the project.

No RGBA option with AVI-VFW or Direct Show outputs are offered. Same responses as first post when selecting Quicktime output.

Today’s attempt to download the 5.04/64bit installer is successful (today labeled as RED504) but still doesn’t list Avid as one of the host platforms. Will this work? I’ll do the uninstall/reinstall dance again if you give the word… but I want to hear it from you.

I think you understand my frustration here… I should be learning and implementing the new features of a long-awaited upgrade, not spending my time trying to configure the software to do the things I can do without an upgrade.

    best,
    Scott
