I have obviously hit a nerve with the fanboy category, because I never mentioned you by name. In fact, I don’t even know who you are. Wasn’t talking to you, or about you.
My post said there were three camps in the iMovie Pro debate. 1. Fanboys, 2. Wait and see, 3. Skeptics. You are the guy that decided you fit into category one, and felt the need to declare “…is not a fanboy and neither am I.” But hey, if the shoe fits, wear it.
And for the life of me, I don’t know why you’re dragging Gary into this, other that to name drop. I wasn’t talking to him either. And even if I was, he is a big boy and can defend himself.

I think this is because of the proliferation of h.264 in acquisition. A lot of folks are coming in the door with this, and it has to be transcoded to ProRes. So hearing that this isn’t an issue for the new version might mean better relations with those clients/users, less time/money spent transcoding, yadah-yadah. Great, who wouldn’t want that? Now if you have to trade a bunch of other functionality you need to get that feature. So what do you tell the clients if they have h.264 material, and are expecting the new no transcode workflow, but then want to send the audio to a Pro Tools guy, or footage to a colorist, or print to tape?Scott Sheriff

It will be interesting to hear from all those that steadfastly defended this new version sight unseen, except for a tightly controlled limited demo, now that they can actually see it for themselves.

“Apple would not abandon professional users”So far people are reporting no XML, OMF or EDL. No support for projects created with previous versions. No Log and Capture. No RS422 tape control. No FX scripts. No plugin support. No multicam.
I suspect there will be the typical “just the tip of the iceberg”, or “a more better version is just around the corner” comments will be posted in defense of this release.

I’ve done a couple of these and it is pretty straight forward. A lot will depend on the rules of the facility and the circumstances. There is a big difference between shooting a staged demonstration, and shooting a real procedure.

[Karl Gonzalez] “I’ve been trying find a way to capture channels 3&4 on a few tapes that I need the M&E off but I haven’t had any luck. The owner of the company was told the purchase the Blackmagic Intensity Pro card but I’ve been told you still can’t control the device in FCP to choose which audio channels to capture.
Before we had the card I had been using a Canopus converter to capture from the betacam deck when just ch. 1&2 of audio were needed. So far it seems like the best way to go would be to purchase the Intensity Shuttle.
Just looking to find out if that is going to be the best way or if there is any other way to capture ch. 3&4.
Just in case the deck model number is UVW-1800.”
You need something like either a BVW 75 or PVW 2800.

if there any other reason than just that they are expensive….”Litepanels are are real good for some uses, but you can shape the light much better with something like the Arri kit you mentioned.
The other thing about LED and flo based lighting is that the color spectrum is not consistent. I think it is much easier to mix and match tungsten lights.
LED and flo’s are great in some situations, and if you have a setup that they are better for, by all means use them. But IMHO tungsten lights are still a better choice for all around use.Scott Sheriff
