I would disagree that this is the best way to evaluate X.
You don’t proof test a firearm buy shooting the lightest load available, or dyno test a new engine design by letting it sit and idle all day.
The only way to know if something actually works in the real world is to push it to its design limits and beyond.
Back when they were trying to qualify ICBM’s for use in manned flight. They ran them in a test stand in Huntsville, at their full rated limits, or more to see where they would fail. And the failures happened at the test stand so they could, easily pick up the pieces and examine them. These were the Redstone Arsenal Tests, and an example of how a proper Beta test should be done.
When I read between the lines, it seems that you already know this product can’t be given ‘The Redstone Arsenal Test’. Why waste the effort?
Why volunteer your time to Beta test apples product?
Why pay $300 dollars to Beta test apples product?
Are you testing this on your one and only system you use to make money? If so why would you risk system stability to be an unpaid apple Beta tester?

It never ceases to amaze me all the ‘straw man’ scenarios the fanboys will create to make apple seem like Mother Theresa meets The Red Cross, squared.
I’m sure it makes you all warm and tingly to give apple money, but are you really trying to imply that buying directly from Graeme Nattress is unsafe, or inconvenient? Or that now apple has added a layer of protection and safety? If you go to the Nattress web site, you will see Graeme’s direct email posted. Good luck getting through the layers of corporate bureaucracy at apple if you have problems.
I guess you don’t understand the safety in diversity either.
There’s an old saying about not putting all ones eggs in the same basket. Based on some of the horror stories people have posted about unrecognized purchases and other problems with your beloved app store. The last thing I would want to do is have my entire system tied to the app store. This is the equivalent of copying a file to the same drive its on, and then consider it backed up.Scott Sheriff

You missed the boat if you wanted a NOS copy of FCS3. Apple told all the resellers to send back all the unsold units a week before the release.Ebay, black market, or gray market copies are your choices.

With a huge commitment like a $300 app and an iMac, I could really see a lot of X-heads busting up at least $20 or so to back up that hefty investment with some ed-u-muh-kay-shun.

I have a secure Port A Brace bag, I am very careful with this camera, the back focus ring is tightened down secured so I am stumped as to why this is happening. When out on location I have been able to successfully adjust the backfocus and resume shooting.”
All mechanical items have a tolerance. It is often quoted as a nominal dimension, plus, or minus. It could be three things.
1. Defective threads on the backfocus screw.
2. Defective threads on the backfocus adjustment collar.
3. Neither is defective, but the threads on the screw are at the minimum acceptable tolerance, and the collars threads are at the maximum allowable tolerance. In combination, these may not tighten as well as parts closer to the nominal dimension.
You’re no longer in warranty so start with the easiest and cheapest fix.
Try replacing the screw and see if that helps.
You can also buy a small coil spring with an inside diameter just big enough for the screw to go through. Choose a screw that will be compressed about 50% when the screw is tightened. This is a common way to vibration proof screws that need to be adjusted. The pressure of the spring pushing up against the underside of the screw head keeps it from backing out and getting loose.Here is a sample of what I’m talking about on a similar type of screw.

If it is short and part of an hourly edit session, I do it at the editing rate.
Something that is long, or stand alone type work that I can let run while I’m doing something else (end of day/overnight) I charge less than the edit rate.

[Rich Rubasch] “While I don’t think FCP X is going to be a part of our production company in the near term, I wonder if this shift isn’t good for the professional / post house / full service production company in the near term.
We all know many agencies have on staff editors and most of them run FCP. Just enough skill to be dangerous and there are a few good ones out there. But once FCP X hits I think there will certainly be a need for a fully fleshed out editing system with color correction, advanced editing tools, video IO hardware and a skilled operator. This might actually be a shift back to separating the men from the boys, so to speak.
The college students can cut on their laptops and upload to Facebook all day, but if you need a professional tool with professional infrastructure you need to find a post house with an AVID or the Premier suite, or dare I say, Media 100.
Apple will sell zillions of copies of FCP X at it’s pricepoint to those who are intrigued by the slick modern interface, will muddle thru the new workflow and use it well.
But if you want a truly professional editing system you have to reach a bit higher, a place where the kids might not dare to go, but us pros will jump at a great editing system will the bells and whistles we need.”
Yes and no.
At first I had been thinking supply and demand means lower rates. The trend of the past thirty years would tend to support that theory.
But then I started coming around to where your at, and there is a lot of truth to it.
However not everything is a feature film, or for broadcast. There are plenty of people that make a living, or at least supplement their broadcast and film work with mundane projects like training films and such. Quite a bit of that customer base is very bottom line oriented, and not as concerned with being broadcast quality. I think an over saturated market will hurt rates in this area of production, which is quite large.Scott Sheriff
