You can also use ExFAT format as well. That can be read and written to on both PC and Mac, on Windows 7 and higher…

Maybe I am just lucky I do my own builds…The MOST expensive I have ever built for editing was about $1700 and that would have been nowhere near a comparable Mac Pro. Again, just my experience..

As you have stated later in this thread, it seems no one really knows how Vegas uses processing. Most of us see MAYBE 50% CPU usage with stuttering preview, no clue what SVP is using and when..

    What are your project setting?
Are the files 1080p or 1080i, what is the framerate and does this match your project settings? Same for your render…

For $3000 you can build an INSANE editing computer, and bypass Mac, they are good, but once you get by all the Thunderbolt adapters and connectors you will be WAY over $3000. IMHO….

Xeon processors are the best you can get (and what a Mac Pro uses), it seems that AMD GPUs are currently the best with SVP, but if you are going to use any ADOBE product as well, NVIDIA MAY be a better call, but you will need to research what works best for the Mercury engine for Adobe…

John has a great suggestion about looking on Video Guys building guides…but if you want to get the best bang for your buck, you may need to build your own or use a place that will custom build it for you…

    Good luck!

There are a large number of mounts that GOPRO has that can REALLY add to your creativity as well. I purchased a ton on EBAY in several packs that are really cool.
I find POV view can me cool, also setting up the camera at various angles that are not common POV for people to see from. Waist height, on the ground, dutch angles from in a tree limb crook. If you are going places that have low walls, or big enough holes in a wall with rock or something, putting the GP in there may be cool. Also, if if get the clip mount, you can attach it to about anything that is 1.5″ or thinner, which could be a tree branch or table, etc.

Gopros are really good for that, however they have like NO DOF and the fisheye view can be odd at times. I would be sure to use the WIFI app which can help you to get a view of what you are shooting from your smartphone. Also take a TON of batteries and a portable charger too with the proper electrical connections for the country you will be in.

As those above have mentioned, WATCH, WATCH WATCH to get ideas, and use your creativity!!!

    Have a great trip!

What TYPE of footage are you shooting? Depending on what you are shooting will help us help you with ideas and such. The list of places really doesn’t tell us what is there that will be filmed…

    Thanks

Hmmmm, well John, going completely Apple is NOT an option, I am looking to update what I get from my ATEM TVS, and also be able to use a recorder that can bypass the DSLR 30 minute limit. I have $800 to spend on that recorder, not the ability to “invest” in all things Apple. Atomos and most of the stand alone recorders I have researched are using these type formats, also I plan on using 1-10 video clips in any case, so I don’t even know if the file limit will matter to me. I can also, remux if need be, correct?
I understand your thoughts, but some things are just not an option at this point.
    And I understand, I have been warned…;-)

Thanks so much Norman, really appreciate your help!!! I have QT installed and it sounds like DNxHD is better from what you said. I am assuming it doesn’t have the QT 32bit memory issues, correct?

    Again, appreciate your input!!

Thanks Norm…. I will check those out. There are mixed media files, 3 different formats, so that is why I wanted to know a general export format..

    Appreciate it!!!
