that’s a good question. I don’t think it will matter if you have the sata drives striped. It couldn’t hurt, but I don’t think you’d be able to use that as the G-5’s system drive(I recall something about not being able to boot to a striped drive or something). I

Is this with a PCIx G5 with the Media 100 HDx card or a PCIe G5 with the AJA hardware?

It COULD make a difference. My guess (without any first-hand knowledge) is that the PCIe would be less likely to give you trouble ’cause each PCIe slot is effectively it’s own bus.

  • Floh has a good point. What formats do you work in? What codecs do you typically work with or would like to work with? What type of clients do you typically have?

At the end of the day, these things are tools and you are the craftsman.

What computer you decide to run on is your choice too. The new thing is obviously the MAC Pro’s. But remember the G-5 that was the only computer Apple offered a week ago is still as good and fast now as it was then.

You use the Media 100 now, if you like it and wany pretty much the same experience but faster, go with the SDE. If you’d like to move into the HD eventually but not today, then the HDE is the way to go.

You are not able to take a project, program or bin, that you’ve opened in Media 100SW 10.2.1 or Media 100HD and then bring the project, program or bin back to Media 100i. The reason for this is because there are program attributes you can apply in the newer applications that Media 100i will not recognize. Your best bet is to take the finished program timeline and export that as a self contained movie and then bring that into Media 100i 8.2.3a.
