  • I learned the answer to my problem. Althought this method takes some extra steps, its a sure-fire way to adjust a 4:3 image to a 16:9 image in SD after a sequence is outputted.

So, for inquiring minds, I’ve left a bread trail to help others out of the dark forest…

After exporting each sequence in either DV NTSC 4:3 or DV NTSC Anamorphic
    1. Open each sequence in Quick Time
    2. Hit Command J
    3. Go double click Video Track
    4. Uncheck Preserve Aspect Ratio
    5. Make the frame size 720×405
    6. Hit return and the frame size is changed to 16:9
    6. Save the file.

Walla! My thanks to Larry Jordan for the tip.

    Bogesian,

Thanks for the advice. I do remember 8 months ago reading your moniker “read the freakin manual” and I took it to heart then. Good advice. I try to exhaust all my resources before I put out questions to Cow and risk looking like an idiot. I’ll recheck the manual for the 5th time – just to make sure I’ve got it right.

Once again though, The chapter markesr all work well in DVD Studio Pro when I export the sequence with “Chapter Markers” set instead of export for “DVD Studio Pro Markers” so I don’t think it’s user error – but of course it wouldn’t be the first time I made a mistake.

I’ve taken that basic step already when I edited the material.

March 18, 2006 at 1:00 am in reply to: Dropped Frames During Capture on X-RAID using FCP HD

I found the solution to the “dropped frames” during capture issue I posted above. There is an Apple article, ID # 302780 “Xserve RAID:Optimizing video capture rates,” that solved the problem. In RAID Admin deselect the “Allow Host Flushing” button found in the Admin settings under “Use Controller Write Cache.” Do this every time the RAID is restarted. This solved the problem. ALthough I changed the settings on the RAID from Extended Jounaling to just Jounaling (which I found can be done only through Terminal in Applications by entering: “Diskutil disableJournal /volumes/RAID”)-mind the spaces!). By just disabling Journaling, the capture problem remained. Only after I deselected “allow Host Flushing” was I able to capture without dropped frames.

    Thanks for your help.
