oh and, Alex, when you say you put your internal burner and external box together yourself, is that something that’s easy to do? looks to be much more cost-effective to do it that way, just worried I don’t have the technical skills…..

Thanks Alex, very helpful info!! Will definitely look into the Epson.

(just FYI, I heard that there’s some loophole with iDVD, that if you use patchburn, you can use an external burner, though projects often crash)

  • Thanks!

Thanks for all the input guys, I appreciate it —

Client is a non-profit, so has no $$ for a professional. They’ve done
the VO in the past and want to do it again. I’m doing project out of
goodness of my heart (no $$ for me either), so want to find the most
efficient/least time consumming way for me, but that still yields relatively good quality.

I’ll take all your suggestions into consideration, thanks again!

I meant, is the VO something the client can do on their own. I’m assumming they don’t have any professional audio eqiupment and would find a ‘quiet’ space, and then miniDV shoot the narration and hand over the tape, then I’ll input audio into FCP. Bad idea?

    Overview of project –
    1. Making a new organization video, one to show potential corporate donors and one to show potential/new volunteers, about what the organization does.
    2. TRT 5 minutes
    3. Bulk of material will be historical program footage; if any interviews are included, it’ll be ones that have already been shot – I won’t be shooting new ones, or any footage for that matter. Edit-only project.

I only have my camera’s internal mic. Have rented lavs and shotguns in the past. So if I were to do that again, you’d recommend the Shure?

Thanks guys, so helpful, and so quick! Costco sounds like the way to go, what a price.

What rez do you recommend? I’m completely in the dark when it comes to slides. Also, if I want to do any editing of the slides, for instance if there’s a scratch or the like, what software would I use? Photoshop? Can FCP fix those types of problems?

Again my thanks, I really appreciate your help.

But then doesn’t that mean I’ll have no chapter markers within the actual project? I want those, just not on the iDVD menu.

Thanks JRF. Is there a converter I need to get? My iMac G5 looks to only have one input, but the stereo has two cables? A 1/8-inch miniplug maybe?
