I would go 12K so you have some pixels in reserve 😉

October 18, 2014 at 8:25 am in reply to: Ridiculous Feature Request: MacPro as Target Disk & GPU/Priciest External EverThe best renderfarm for Resolve at this point is a second nMP and shared storage.
What I always wanted to see is a render manager which could just spilt projects and render them on the available machines.
So you can buy a couple of macMinis for example and stack em and let them to the number crunching while you are working with the client on new material.A slice of color…

October 15, 2014 at 10:55 am in reply to: Feature Suggestion: a 4th picture for scene cut detectionI think we are all aware of the workarounds and there are plenty.
But as Jack states, Nucoda really shines in modern interface usability here…
Heck, even Logic or Reaper have better Key-framing options.
Personally, I do not need more functions at this time, but lets streamline things.
Resolve would only get better if some of the functions would be accessible faster and more accurately.
And in terms of using motion tracking for scene detection, if you go down that path you could do so much more.
Like tracking pan/scan info on an offline and recreating that for the online, even speed info could be derived from that. But for know, just a slider with “minimum scene length’ for Resolve 11.2 and this tool gains 500% functionality 🙂

October 14, 2014 at 10:58 am in reply to: Feature Suggestion: a 4th picture for scene cut detectionI also want to have the scene detection per clip or timeline, embedded in the edit page and not as separate windows only.
When you look at Scratch it does it right just there.
You just click a segment on the timeline and say “detect cuts”
It runs trough it giving you exactly two parameters .
Sensitivity and minimum Length.
AND, there is an undo if its to messed up AND it stored the detection info in case you want to do it again in memory.
So thats what I need.
The other window can stay, its useful to load in EDLs that are made on AVID and then just use the record timecode to splice up the long video mixdowns.
But a smaller version that lives in the edit page is vital. And yes, I agree, its time to sit down and start making the features better, faster , less cumbersome and annoying.
We really do not need more at this time, but I have a huuuuge list in my head that starts with the Media Pool and ends with the Delivery Page.
A big portion of these have been mentioned by others or myself through the years but are lost in the “will my old PC work with Resolve” noise.A slice of color…

October 12, 2014 at 9:49 am in reply to: Feature Suggestion: a 4th picture for scene cut detectionWhat we really need in the scene detection tool is the ability to set a minimum value for scene length.
Try analyse some celebrity red carpet scene 😉
Every flash will give you a scene cut and no, sensitivity is not helping….A slice of color…

Just upload the project file to a file hoster, then people here can try to recreate the problem.

I like to have a LOAD Mask button that brings in the shape tracking from Mocha as a power window which leaves all additional options open.
So we still have the inner and out softness, can subtract or add with other masks and have the choice to insert a second video track.
But I am totally fine to wait for Fusiolve 😉A slice of color…

Well, I personally prefer baked speed effects too, but another method is of course to disable the effects and grade the source video.
As soon as you go back to Premiere they just pop back.
Some of our AVID people still deliver me material that way, but most agree that the new motion estimated speed FX in Avid are as good as it gets and bake em.A slice of color…

Well Pete,
the reason this forum drifts often away from the topic is that almost 90% of the questions in here are misplaced.
They should be in the “Basics and configurations’ forum as this one has been dedicated to grading talk.
But all we do (since its too cheap , or even free ) is to talk about peoples attempts of running a perfectly performing software on a potato.
The guys at BMD did am amazing job to make this software sooo accessible , the only thing they ask with their config guide is that people follow this guide and use proper hardware.
And by that I do not mean 3 Titans in a Cubix or a 2000 mbs flash array.
But it can not , in any way, be as centered around ProRes as FCP X is.
In fact, most media files , like MPGs and stuff are not meant for editing or grading work, they are a playback product. So as much as we understand your frustration with your hardware, you have to acknowledge its 7 years old now and not all new software will perform equally.
