    8 x 500 drives will be enough to give you HD as well…maybe even as a raid5 set.

    If the board you’re getting has ide & sata onboard (ie tyan2895)then four big drives striped on the four sata channels would be ok for 8bit SD…
    …otherwise have a look at the Highpoint Rocketraid cards.

    I think the RocketRaid 2240 takes 16 drives…4×4 “infiniband” ports, raid 5, pci-x.

    Maybe that’s because we only told them about the problem in numbers just before the weekend, and since they’re in Australia, the BM boys n girls won’t be back from their day(s) off for a couple more hours…

  • Hi Brant,

    The slot type you need is 133mhz PCI-X, which is not the same thing as PCI-Express. As a general rule you should be looking at dual processor boards – single cpu boards rarely have PCI-X. Supermicro boards are a good first port of call, Tyan have a couple of good ones, do a search of previous posts for more suggestions and recommendations.
