Darn. 🙂 No good excuses to switch. You guys are right, there isn’t much difference between the 2 environments anymore… which is why I haven’t been able to convince IT guy that I need a Mac. I run Adobe’s print & web software and aside from the not-quite-as-pretty interfaces, I haven’t noticed any difference – except retraining my fingers to hit the right shortcuts. I’m just a loyalist I guess… it’s what I learned on.
However, I need to upgrade my home machine & I’m actually considering coming over to the dark side. Gasp! (For $2Gs more… it’s hard to be loyal.)

Believe me, I would have a Mac if it were my call. I have one at home… no video software, though. Unfortunately, because I am the graphic designer in the office & architects have to have their PCs & we have to be all on the same system… well, here I am stuck on one.
What’s your alternative, just out of curiosity? (Not that switching to a Mac would be any cheaper than buying the Adobe package! But how I would love a miracle reason that I just MUST switch to a Mac!)

Haha! I think I got your point, Dave! 🙂 I think our IT guy just wanted to make sure there isn’t a viable alternative. I didn’t think there would be anything good to say about Wax… Thanks for your pointed arguments – I’ll be sure to use them if needed!

Brian – can you point me to any examples of presentations you’ve done with AE?

Brian-
Thanks for the info. Flash would do pretty much the same thing as Director, right? I’m more familiar w/ Flash. Do you just create buttons for interactivity or is there a PPT-type slide show thing in Director?Yep, I already use Photoshop & Illustrator for PPT presentations. Definitely much better than trying to do something nice in PPT only. Just now would like to take it to the next level.

Cool, Steve. Thanks for your help.

Oh! So really, I could use AE to animate clips and put them into PPT, and bypass Encore completely?
-
Yeah, maybe. There’s just 3 of us in marketing (including me), so it probably wouldn’t be too terrible. I didn’t think PPT could handle video – do you just have to link out to movies located somewhere else?

Cool. Yeah, that’s what I want to do. I’d like to end up with something user-friendly for the presenter (like PPT is), but with all those elements I mentioned that will make us stand out from everyone else using sub-par PPT animation & slides.
