August 20, 2011 at 10:28 am in reply to: mirroring iTunes Library as a music/sound archiveHey John,
basically it’s 5 libraries that we’re looking to sync automatically, preferably without us having to update anything manually from now and again.
Spotify isn’t helpful, as we need the actual data on the computer and would the ability to add further information to the ID3-Tag. We would like to use it as a sound archive, hence we need fast access to the files to use them in the programme as it is for news edititing.
Do you reckon it is possible to have one central ‘add to itunes library folder’ on a server, which then would distribute the data to the 5 individual libraries? Maybe some automator pinch?
In our case we cannot just update one machine to sync the others every other week, as there is an input on all machines constantly.
Thank you for your time so far John.
Bye,
Sandro

August 17, 2011 at 10:01 pm in reply to: mirroring iTunes Library as a music/sound archiveHi John,
thanks for the quick response. Your solution seems interesting.
However: do the different machines share the library on the iTunes server or do you just work around that problem by having iTunes running on one machine at a time? I’m a bit confused here.
OR is it the case that the iTunesServer would copy from the ‘AddToiTunes’-Folder to every single local library of the different machines?
Hence: Whenever an editor would come with new music, they would drag it to that folder and this would multiply it to the different individual iTunesLibraries? This, Sir, would be freaking awesome!Bye,

Thanks Craig for the help!
I suppose the G4 just doesn’t kick it anymore, especially with the EX1 and 3.

Hey
yeah that actually helped a lot and I have another question,
Is it possible to convert XDCAM files with FCP or do I have to use the transfer tool?
Or as I understand from FCP 6 it is possible to use the XDCAM files, but it’s still easier to convert them bz the tool.My question is mainly concerning the work-flow during the shoot, as we would only have the PowerBook G4 whilst shooting and a MacPro in the EditSuite.
The perfect solution (as we wanna stick to Apple) to get a MacBook Pro with loads of Hard Disk, so we can store and check the clips in the breaks. Am I right in this assumption?
Thanks again for the help,
Regards,
Sandro

Hello again,
as I just needed a short piece I used in Audio/Video settings:
Sequence AppleProRes 422 (HQ) (choose settings you need)
Capture: HDV-Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)
and non controllable device.
I’m sure it would work without the HQ as well.Afterwards I pressed Apple 8 and it started capturing from the point the tape was on. It still breaks into clips randomly but the gap problem was solved.
It’s not perfect, but the best I can offer.
Cheers,

Hi Keith,
unfortunatetly I’ve got no solution for you. I’ve got the same problem here which is horrible, as it’s exactly a sentence I would need desperately. It helped to set the preroll (let me think I’m using a German Version here) in Audio/Video settings, 4th tab to 1 second. That’s the best result I got so far, but it’s still not enough for me.
Have you tried that trashing the settings they talk about in the other thread? It’s a shame that FCP doesn’t allow the user to switch-off the TC break-up.
Let me know if you have any solutions please.
Bye,
Sandro
