    Hi,

I tried once before, without response, so I’ll take another crack at it. I capture on a JVC HD100 and edit on FCP 5.1. Whenever I capture, even using “Capture Now” to capture the entire tape, FCP randomly breaks up the tape into multiple separate clips. There’s no rhyme or reason to why this happens, and it always leaves me with a 7-8 second gap between the captures.

Obviously, this makes editing impossible, with myriad large gaps in my captures. I’ve tried the various stuff listed in this thread, from someone last year who had exactly the same problem:

    https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/8/929417

Since that was more than a year ago, I wanted to see if the latest version of FCP still has this problem with HDV, or if anyone knows if there’s a workaround.

I edit on a MacBook Pro, Intel Dual Core, 2 GB RAM, capture to external Lacie 500GB firewire 800 drive.

    Any thoughts? And thanks!

    Keith

    Hi Keith,

unfortunatetly I’ve got no solution for you. I’ve got the same problem here which is horrible, as it’s exactly a sentence I would need desperately. It helped to set the preroll (let me think I’m using a German Version here) in Audio/Video settings, 4th tab to 1 second. That’s the best result I got so far, but it’s still not enough for me.

Have you tried that trashing the settings they talk about in the other thread? It’s a shame that FCP doesn’t allow the user to switch-off the TC break-up.

Let me know if you have any solutions please.

    Bye,

    Sandro

    Hello again,

as I just needed a short piece I used in Audio/Video settings:
Sequence AppleProRes 422 (HQ) (choose settings you need)
    Capture: HDV-Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)
    and non controllable device.
I’m sure it would work without the HQ as well.

Afterwards I pressed Apple 8 and it started capturing from the point the tape was on. It still breaks into clips randomly but the gap problem was solved.

It’s not perfect, but the best I can offer.

    Cheers,

    Sandro
