Thank you very much for those quick responses! Until I get to play with it, I guess I won’t really know if a 2D tracker will do the job or not. But it’s worth a try!
Checked out the Pixel Farm. You weren’t kidding about the price difference! Unfortunately, the footage is DVC Pro HD from an HVX200, so we’d need the expensive version. So, I’m thinking if it doesn’t work, then I might try out Synth Eyes.
Thanks again for the help and btw, cool site you have. Wish you had more Red training on DVD though as you’re a good ways away from here! -

Actually, I’ve got an Acom external firewire and am quite happy with it. Had it going on 2 years now. Have not had the same results with Lacie Big Disk Extremes. Just lost my 2nd one when the power flashed briefly. Everything else was fine (PC, G5, Acom drive, all TVs, Tivo, and VCRs), but that little change killed the Lacie.
I also have a Weibetech TrayDock that I’m quite happy with. $180 for the unit then you just buy as many hard drives as you want as file them as edit describes. The nice thing is the TrayDock is fanless, yet runs cool (think it’s the long case and metal frame), so it’s silent. -
I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere today about a FCP presentation mentioning 24p support for the JVC HD100. That’s been coming for a while, so I guess it wouldn’t really be big news anyway. It was probably in the HD100 forum at DVinfo. But, it was a second hand report, not an official release.

Sorry for the delay. Took a couple days off after I finished the project. Unfortunately, I was the DP for the shoot, but I did add about 1 min of bars at the start of each tape. But I tried re-batch capturing clips other than the first one and I still got the same error message. Weird. -
Shane, thanks for the help. I actually got it to work. I have no explanation for this, but by changing the names of the new clips to match the old clips, things worked. Before the name change, reconnecting resulted in chaos. Same clips, but different result. Go figure.
I did not capture with the uncontrolled device, it’s definitely a controlled device setting. So I guess there should be timecode but leaves me wondering why the clips wouldn’t batch capture back again.
Anyway, I know you have a point about logging and capturing, but I didn’t do it for a few reasons. #1 I’d have to pay for a deck or take the abuse on my camera (I’m also about the sell the camera), #2 the rewinding and fast forwarding takes forever compared to having it on a hard drive and everytime I think I’ll never use such and such a shot, I end up wanting to check it out for one reason or another somewhere down the line, #3 my only other FCP project was a film originated project where we logged and captured only b/c we needed to start each clip from its 0 frame to make the cinema tools conversion easy, & #4 this project is due by tuesday and thereafter I’m never going to have anything else to do with it. Famous last words, I guess. But, this is the risk you take I suppose doing things this way.
Again, thank you for the help, I do apprecite it and am looking forward to the new doc I was reading about on DV.com. Sounds like a really cool show coming up. -
Thank you very much for that. Actually, I’ve been so busy with other things that I haven’t bought anything yet. Also, the latency wasn’t something I knew about. Most of the people I asked said basically that Ram was Ram.
I’ve been trying to compare latency stats a bit. Other World and Crucial both seem to say they’re at 4. I can’t find any stats for 4allmemory’s ram and RAMJET lists theirs as “Latency 4-4-4-12”, which I thought was the timing. The thing is Crucial is about $80 more expensive for each 2 gig set of Ram than any of the other options and as I’d like to buy 4 gigs of Ram, they’d cost $160. But accoding to the given latency speed, they’re the same as Other World. You said the difference in cost is usually small differences is latency speed, are you sure about that as it doesn’t seem to be the case here?

Sorry for the delay, but thanks for the help. Crucial has gotten good feedback at resellerratings.com, but so has 4allmemory. Other World Computing has not done as well. Crucial seems to be the favorite around here, but it runs about $80 more for each 2 gig set, so combined it would cost me $160 more. Is crucial really that much better?

Have you tried the Cinema D mode instead? I read somewhere and saw some pics comparing the pixilization/blockiness in the blacks b/t cinema v and cinema d shots and d definitely looked better (had less of the problem).

It’s definitely possible and I’ve done it with my Sony pd-150 many times. Are you saying you can see the analog signal in the GL1s monitor but it goes blank when you plug in the firewire cord?
