    Hi Bret,

When exporting media you have the ability to customize your audio channel configuration (under the audio tab). There you can specify which channel pairs should be tagged as a stereo stream or which individual channels should be a mono stream.

  • I’m actually not using this for an Avid workflow, but rather for importing metadata into Premiere.

During production scene and take information is typically entered by location sound recordists (unless it’s a MOS shoot of course). In the process of creating dailies and syncing audio to video, this metadata gets passed along to the newly synced clips (within applications like DaVinci Resolve, or Assimilate Scratch). Unfortunately this information is not included in Resolve XML exports. However it is included in ALE exports. Premiere doesn’t import ALEs. So this useful metadata (scene/take) gets lost and an assistant editor typically enters it AGAIN during prep. This is prone to user error and very tedious. So until Resolve includes this info its XML exports or Premiere/Prelude implements ALE imports or some other form of metadata import, CatDV Pro has proven to be a very handy metadata translator or bridge of sorts.

  • I was able to figure this out over the weekend. But boy was it a bumpy ride.

I really like CatDV and appreciate how far it has come, however still find its documentation lacking and its Preferences quite ambiguous. Granted it’s typically an integrator that handles the nitty gritty.

Here’s what I found in order to successfully attach ALE metadata to an existing clip in the catalog:
    – Tape and TC info must match between existing clip and ALE clip info
    – The following preference checkboxes must be enabled:
Proxies & Thumbnails > Automatically link media based on tape name
Import > Combine duplicates (same In & Out values)

  • Hi John,

I would like to know more details about this specific feature/workflow you mention.

I’m importing an ALE and it doesn’t link to the media files. Attaching media to the ALE imported clips results in losing info like my scene and take information.

I’ve tried importing the media files first and the the ALE but they come in as different clips as opposed to adding the ALE metadata to the existing clips.

    Thanks

    Salvador

  • Thanks Gary. LockIt Networks and Ambient Recording offer an interesting solution, like you said more for script supervisors.

  • Thanks Gary!

Yes from a live feed. So far my search has led me to QTakeHD, video assist software. It appears to be the only thing out there that does this, and yes quite expensive (for our intended application which is more along the lines of shot logging/reporting).

Transvideo appears to have a monitor that can do this, but not quite what we’re looking for.
