Hi Alan,
Your best option would be to connect the V4 to the FW bus and then connect an Esata drive to a Lindy card in the side of your MacBookPro. A Proavio DV Box Mini is small bus powered (plug in the usb cable) and has Esata which is a fast connection. Using the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test we managed 71.1 MB/s Read and 66.1 MB/s write using Seagate Es2 class drives. I hope this is of help,
