Yes, cameras were staggered. It was a multi-week, multi-camera shoot with a total of over 10,000 clips… so resetting camera numbering doesn’t help.

No thoughts 🙂 Worse case scenereo you could break it out into reels of 10-20 mins in length. A lot of sound mixers I’ve delivered to like that.
The tests I ran were with around 20-track sequences…. 26 tracks tho?!? Wow!

Just download the CS6 trial and work with that for a week until your new copy comes!

In the last couple of hours, I played around with my project and did some OMFs… it actually worked quite well in CS6 with some complex stuff. It crashed on my 1h40m feature timeline with nested within nested within nested sequences, but normal, 20-minute or so sequences are doing good!

I have has trouble with this as well, since OMF integration was introduced. OMF integration simply doesn’t seem to work for me… I have the exact same problem as you – it hangs while exporting – usually at the exact same file (meaning that it might be one clip’s fault, but it’s impossible to tell which one, and it happens in many different projects, so I know it’s a bug and not limited to a bad file or something.)
Are you on 5, 5.5 or 6? I had this problem a lot in 5 and 5.5. Have not gotten it in CS6, but I have not put CS6 OMF export through the ringer tho.
I have found a workaround, though… it sucks, but here it is:
Duplicate your timeline (very important). Hold ALT and hilight you’re ENTIRE timeline’s Audio using the lasso. Clip Menu > Audio Options > Render and Replace. Make sure your audio scratch disks are set right, because you’re about to get a whole lot of file created. Wait, THEN export the OMF from this timeline. I will then just “Undo” and go find all those audio files it just created and delete them.
The disadvantage to this method, however, is that Audio Editors / Mixers DONT GET HANDLES. Which is crap. So, this is really only like 50% of a workaround.

June 19, 2012 at 2:11 pm in reply to: Strategy for Sharing Media Between Mac and Windows Premiere ProCat5 1gb is really surprisingly fast. I would look into this first, just because all other options are exponentially more expensive and difficult to run. Fiber Channel gets very expensive and difficult to run. There’s a shared media storage forum here at COW, try poking around there.

June 19, 2012 at 2:08 pm in reply to: What is the BEST WAY TO ARCHIVE OLD PROJECTS and related media?LTO tapes are considered the industry standard. However, these are very expensive.
For a small business, I would just recommend sticking to hard drives. However, use bare drives that you mount in docks instead of buying new externals every time. Saves a bundle. You can even have a “live” RAID array or something that you edit off of, and then move projects to slower, cheaper, 5.4k RPM drives for archive.

June 19, 2012 at 2:06 pm in reply to: Advice Needed! – Sound Dropping Out on Old AND New SystemUpdate:
I thought that a new sounds card fixed this issue, but it didn’t. I’m not sure if it was a placebo effect, but the audio was perfect for a couple of days, but now it’s back to being inoperable again, cutting out and skipping, making editing impossible.
It definitely seems to happen more and more as the day goes on, so perhaps it’s a result of filling up RAM? Either that or a disk not keeping up (but I am working with a RAID0 and not particularly high bitrate footage. I really am out of ideas!
My instinct is to go higher RAM, but I’m maxed out DIMM slots at 12gb, so it’d have to be a 24gb upgrade, and I’m on a borrowed computer… don’t want to invest in it!

June 13, 2012 at 4:36 pm in reply to: Advice Needed! – Sound Dropping Out on Old AND New SystemHEY ALL. So, I believe I’ve found a solution.
I go so frustrated with this, though, that I changed my MEDIA CACHE location to my RAID 0 config that’s made up of 10K rpm drives – should be speedy enough. No change in issue. Very frustraited.
I decided to take my own advice and upgrade my sound card, though, and bought one of these yesterday: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TA2870/. Cheapest card with ASIO support (normally $90, for it for $49 refurb). I got it today, installed, and EVERYTHING WORKS. So, my solution to the skipping audio problem was I guess one of just having a sound card that couldn’t keep up with all of the tracks / effects I was using.
Now I have ASIO for surround as well!
I wish this was more clearly stated in system requirements!
