September 9, 2018 at 1:33 pm in reply to: Is it common for the DP to decide where the boom mic goes?Okay thanks, but how would the audio department head talk to the DP when the director or producer does not allow any opportunity for this to happen?
We are not allowed any prior meetings before a shoot or anything, with the DP.

Oh okay, so if I want to shoot at 2.20:1 then what pixel aspect ratio should I export it at? For example 1.77:1 is 1920 x1080 in HD, and 2.39:1 is 1920 x 810. But I can’t find out what 2.20:1 is in pixels. How do I find out?

Oh okay, this is the opposite of what I have heard before, and that projectionists are not usually trained on any other than 1.85:1 and 2.39:1.
However, I was told that the movie Tomorrowland was shot in a 2.20:1 aspect ratio, but they put it in a 1.85:1 DCP with black bars on the top and bottom, and that the reason why they did this, was so the theaters could display it properly, since they are only set up for 1.85:1, or 2.39:1.
So is that true, and that if I shot it 2.20:1, then I should put it in a 1.85:1 sized DCP?

I also have a mic stand too, I forgot about.

Okay thanks. Maybe I can re-storyboard it so there is little tracking, it’s just the character is suppose to be furious in this scene, and when someone is furious, they usually pace and move around a lot rather than being still. So it might look weird if he was furious and still but I can ask other opinions.
I was able to get two C-stands. I can put my bed blanket as well as some other blankets on them if that will help. That still leaves 3 sides of the room uncovered, but I need those 3 sides for different shots anyway though. Do you think it would help much?

But when it comes to masking, where do I get the footage from to mask it out since when the camera moves with the actors, it will move slightly different each time, and not match exactly. How do they do it on House of Cards when the camera moves, and capture the exact same movement?
-
I can try masking the boom out, it’s just in the past when I have attempted this, you can always tell it’s mask. Something in the lighting patterns doesn’t match always, whenever I’ve tried this.

Okay thanks. I can get a tight pattern, just not in the master shots I feel. But how tight are we talking here?

Actually I just had a crazy idea but maybe this could work. I already recorded the actor in a studio since he’s narrating in the scene, and there is b roll cutting back and forth with him during the narration.
I recorded a test run of the narration so I could edit the b-roll sequences together in my spare time while waiting in between shoots.
Perhaps I could put this pre-recording to use in some way, since it was recorded in a room with hardly any reverb in, and recorded real close up to his mouth with a good mic? Maybe I could put this to some sort of use, and maybe it would match up possibly?
