But is there a way to determine that though from looking at the movie, what the focal length is?

Okay thanks, but here is what I don’t understand though. How am I suppose to get accepted into a festival FIRST, if I haven’t even exported the movie yet? Wouldn’t I have to export it first, and send it in, before I got accepted?

Well okay then, I will film it in either 2.20:1 or 2.39:1 and then ask what the pixel aspect ratio should be afterwards. Thanks!

Okay thanks, but in order to send it into festivals, I have to know the pixel aspect ratio to export it in first, don’t I?

  • Well what we learned in school we learned on more expensive and luxurious equipment where I was trying to hope to find solutions that might not cost too much money in comparison.

Okay thanks, sorry yes, I see what you mean. So how do I figure out the aspect ratio then during export? Like in Premiere Pro, it doesn’t give a 2.20:1 export option. You have to decide in pixels, so how I convert 2.20:1 into pixels?

Okay thanks, but don’t need to decide the aspect ratio before shooting, to know that if a theater will accept it?

I don’t want to shoot in an aspect ratio, and then be told later, that they cannot handle it for any reason.

Okay thanks. Yeah I feel like they could be working with me as a team.

I saw the movie later on, and I noticed that the cinematography was really good, and they went all out on the lighting, sets’ camera movement, etc.

However, the sound sucked and sounded too far away. Not to bad mouth people’s movies that I have worked on, but I feel that is what they got out of it (shrug).

Well I would say it’s both about keeping the mic out of frame and getting good sound. It’s just that different DPs on past shoots says the boom interferes with their lighting and creates shadows. But I feel this could be easily fixed or avoided with planning and just light the shadows if you must.

Cause making the boom higher, is going to be too far away and the actors sound more far away on the sound track than they do in the video footage as a result.

Actually I might be able to edit it as is, and it will still make sense. Sure the guy is in a room where I meant to have a projector, but perhaps he can explain things in a way, in which he doesn’t need a projector to tell the plot, so to speak. I will try cutting it that way first maybe.

    If not then reshoot 🙂
