So 1920×1080 is the EX1 sensor size and the hvx is 960×540? This should certainly make a big difference.

Thanks Noah for the help online. I have several of your dvds. It was nice to meet you at the supermeet also.

I was really excited to get the hvx200. Got a couple 16gb cards. Then I started working with the green screen keys I shot in our studio space. It’s got quite good lighting at least I feel. The background reads on scopes at ire 40-50 and the subject is well exposed. On the hvx200 though unless my settings are off just seems to have either a halo or a dark line.

out of the box- the HVX200 has a bit of an edge with lower compression. However you do have the HD-SDI output of the EX1 to give you uncompressed 1920×1080. That said, you’re still dealing with small CMOS chips and a fixed lens. For better results you might want to bump up to an EX1 or perhaps an HPX500.

So I’m looking at possibly selling it for an EX1. You mention the cmos sensors being a bit small and a fixed lens but did I read your reply correctly stating bumping up to an EX1(bump up from hvx or)…? Doesn’t EX1 have cmos chips and a fixed lens or am I getting confused with another model or something.

ps: is there a way to upload a still of the lighting set up and a frame from the shoot? maybe seeing the set up could be useful to be sure it’s set up well or if it needs improvement.

pss:the shots are a subject full length standing on green screen painted cyc.

Thank you for the reply. Since the environment is a studio I have no problem being bound to a cable. So if the sdi will get me the best quality then I’d go that route.

Do you know where I might be able to see some green screen footage shot with the EX1?

So far what I’ve tried is setting the camera(hf10 and sd-9) to 1080 24p and captured via fcp and used the bmd 1080 59.94 uncompressed. i then went into compressor and did a reverse telecine to make it 24p.

It would be great to try the easy setting and get 24p on capture. I guess I’ll have to try it. Also this is a probably a dumb question but how do i know if worked? Will the clip properties say something like 1080 24p or 23.976 or something…?

Thanks luke for the informative reply. Testing the card with my dvd player must have been part of the problem like you said the copy protection. The other issue was the settings you mentioned. I probably didn’t have the setting coming out the cam matching the setting in the control panel.

So now it captures and works great for live previewing to my 32″ lcd panel. Really cool.

What I need to do now is figure out the best workflow to capture uncompressed via either an hdmi(hv30) or hvx200 with 24p and remove the pulldown. I don’t think it will be able to do remove it on capture right.

Any recommendations…? Maybe this is more of a fcp question…?

I understand. I guess I was hoping for the videocopilot version on dvd that might take you through the process…I’d rather keep the pipeline within the creative suite rather than having to jump into 3D apps and then back to CS to finish the job…Well I guess we can all wish…maybe someday…

Yeah sounds good. In my test I brought in some 4:3 footage(for motion menu in same project) and it just stretched to fit the 16:9 dvd. So yeah it seems to work.

I’ve got a workflow. Not sure it’s the best but it works!

Capture my 4:3 footage as 16:9, then go into video effects enabling the motion dropdown unchecking the box for Uniform Scale (within Scale Width) and just change the width from 100 to 135. Walla it’s now unstreched my 4:3 anamorphic footage. I exported an Uncompressed Microsoft AVI. Then in Encore I just let it transcode progressive, built a 16:9 dvd and burn.
