Thank you very much. DiskWarrior seemed to have found things wrong.

David, thanks for your input as well. I will look into a Raid setup in the future.

Do you mean capture as ProRes or jut edit as that? Could I change my edit compressor and still retain quality?

  • No problem, glad its working out for you.

Well, I have to say that I am extremely impressed with my results now I have a better driver (or something). I’m not exactly sure what I did, but a driver must have been updated. I am now transferring 2 GB of data in 45 seconds, and about 11 GB in 4 minutes – outstanding. I had downloaded the Mac OS X standard driver off of Rosewills website. The 10.5.1 driver did not work for me, even though it appeared to be more up to date since it was version 1.1.

    Problem solved

  • Wayne (and anyone else),

I actually just captured a music video in HDV, and it captured butter smooth.

Make sure you are using these settings inside FCP. Take a look at these screen shots:

    Audio/Video Settings:

    https://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4HTX10Qq77I/SPj7c_EdfAI/AAAAAAAAACY/Xo6yIPq1Jv8/s1600-h/FCP+HDV+capture+setting+1.png

Note: I actually changed my Sequence Preset from “HDV 1080i60” to “Apple Intermediate Codec” – it seemed to work better for me. Also, Apple recommends that codec as it was built for HDV via Apple.

    Sequence Presets:

    https://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4HTX10Qq77I/SPj7tjTg74I/AAAAAAAAACg/kRAqcltpyQI/s1600-h/FCP+HDV+capture+setting+2.png

Also, do make sure you refresh your A/V devices in the View menu. As you will see in the Audio/Video Settings, Sony HDV Firewire is selected for the control device, as opposed to Firewire Basic or Firewire NTSC.

Also, this is what Apple says about the Apple Intermediate Codec: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT2704

If you still have issues, I suggest maybe using a different Firewire cable, making sure your Firewire port that you are capturing to is in good working condition, and that FCP is in good working condition.

These settings should work perfect for you, as they do for me.

    Let me know.

Thanks Sean, I had much better results. I tried out an 11 GB transfer, which was only going to take about 10 minutes. However, the transfer stopped a few times. I’ve already contacted Rosewill support about the inconsistency in general, but I may decide that I can deal with the transfers stopping randomly, not sure.

It’s sure not functioning like a transfer between internal SATA hard drives.

Forgot to ask this in my last post.

There are many drivers, for I assume their product line. Could I just pick one or is there a specific card whos driver is the same as mine?
