I’m not sure if this is the correct way to close off this post but I just wanted to make sure that anyone who tried to help me with this issue received my thanks.

Hello Ron,

and thank you so much for your suggestion. I have been rendering as well as exporting but couldn’t find bit depth settings in any format I tried. I’m using a PC and don’t know if that makes any difference. HOWEVER – this time round I rendered to uncompressed AVI and lo and behold, all effects preserved. Then it was just a matter of importing the resulting file back into AE and adding the sounds effects and I was able to produce a tiny FLV file with all the superwhite effects intact.

I am very grateful to you and to the others who took an interest in this problem. I’ve been working with computers since 1967 (no, that’s not a typo) and this is the first time I have registered with a forum to seek help. It won’t be the last.
