It doesn’t officially support slow motion, but if you shoot at 720/60P, then in post you could conform that to 24P, 25 or 30 fps using a program like Cinema Tools or After Effects. I would definitely shoot on a different tape to simplify the digitizing process.

Maybe it should be called the “Panasonic Everything BUT P2” forum. But I guess you can connect a firestore to a HDX900 so that might not work.

If the PC has QuickTime loaded, you should be fine, but it would be worth testing.

My guess is that you won’t see much difference between the DVI and the HDMI inputs because you’re going out to it from the graphics card. From my experience, going straight out of the graphics card to a TV looks horrible! Typically it’s way over saturated!
If you want to have any decent way of trying to tell what your video looks like, I would buy a blackmagic intensity card and go HDMI out of then. Then send some color bars to the display and try to tweek it so that it gets close to what it should (this can be a challenge). You can find instructions on how to calibrate monitors using color bars in the FCP manual.

While I’m quite sure there are people in Hawaii or New Zealand that can help with training, I don’t personally know any of them. You could contact the Apple Store in Honolulu and see the they would suggest anyone.

Also, the manual for Final Cut Express will be priceless to you. On page 977 of the manual, it walks you through step by step on how to export you movie to iDVD.

Exporting QuickTime Movies for iDVD
iDVD only imports standard QuickTime movies as video sources. This means that if you
intend to use iDVD as your DVD authoring application, you only need to export a
QuickTime movie from Final Cut Express HD. iDVD automatically encodes the video and
audio sources to be DVD-compliant. The video is encoded as MPEG-2 at a quality
controlled by a preference setting and the video length. The audio is encoded as
uncompressed AIFF.To export a QuickTime movie for use in iDVD:
1 In Final Cut Express HD, choose File > Export > QuickTime Movie.
2 Configure the Save dialog as desired.
In most cases, you will leave the Include pop-up menu set to Audio and Video. If you
have created any markers, choose DVD Studio Pro Markers in the Markers pop-up
menu. iDVD can use either self-contained or reference movies, allowing you to decide
whether to make the movie self-contained based on other requirements (disk space
and so on).

I’m not sure what’s so great about that. Is your canvas window set to “fit to window”? That might fix it.

that’s probably the best way. that way, your deck can add the timecode overlay.
If your transcribers are using QT 7.1.6 or later, they can see the timecode track instead of the counter if they select. this way, you wouldn’t need to render your video with a timecode window.
