OK, an update. I can take that solid from the precomp (where the blend mode doesn’t work) and paste it into the main comp and the blend mode works. Does anybody have any ideas why it wont work in the precomp?

I think Bezier mesh is a winner. Not quite as intuitive as I thought AE would be, but it gets the job done.

Thanks for that Stephen. I did have a look at bending the layer, but I think that it only bends it from the middle ? (although I could be wrong there), where as what I require is mostly a straight side with a little bit of bend at the far end. Does that make sense?

OK, let me see if I have this right. Since AE normally draws the layers from the bottom of the list upwards, by using expressions am I over riding these defaults to draw from the top of the list downwards?
