Cool Noah – thanks. If I go that route I’ll be sure to buy your course. I’d need to learn how to run good sound from it and use the camera as well as the post workflow – most likely to PPro and a PC. thanks-

To answer your question of “why?”… Part of the reason I was thinking of switching to Mac is that I haven’t used PPro since it was at 1.5 and I thought the learning curve might be just as steep as learning the latest version of FCP; plus the cost of upgrading the PPro software, my OS (PC is in a plastic bag behind the couch and still has XP Pro on it), as well as the processor, video and sound cards and getting a monitor for the PC (don’t have one currently) would be prohibitive. The appeal of the Mac was that I’d get something brand new that had all the upgrades I’d need for less money (I think) than it’d cost me to do all that stuff to my old machine. Granted, I’d still have to get an external HD, but it just seemed like maybe a better deal for me.

Hi Noah! I remember you from back in my former incarnation when I frequented this forum. In other posts – folks said that the GH2 had a high learning curve, which is part of why I was thinking of downgrading. What makes the output post-friendly?

Thanks so much for this info. I’m intrigued by the GH2-DSLR – the price sounds right and if it really shoots video that beautiful with a “hack” that might be the ticket. I’d need a lens that can handle ambient or low light without a lighting set-up – would the video from this camera still look that good if shot under these conditions?

Also – is it fairly easy to figure out where to get the hack and apply it? I’ve not heard of this term before – so please forgive my ignorance. Lastly – good sound quality is important. I have my two wired lav mics from my old equipment – do you have any suggestions around a better way to do sound with this camera?

Lastly – I’ve heard the GH2 can be a bit difficult to work with re: focusing and that it has no zoom. True? Way to get around that? Thanks again for your thoughts!

Hi Amy. Thanks for your response. Right – PPro 1.5 DOESN’T support Mp4 – that’s why I needed to convert the Flip clips to AVI – which I was able to quite easily with a trial version of something called DoremiSoft Flip Video Converter. Worked great – BUT none of the 3 AVI options (xVid, DivX or Raw Video) allow me to hear any audio from the timeline. Again – can hear it on the avi clips in playback in PPro, and can see the audio icon – so I know it’s there, but won’t playback audio from the timeline.

Thoughts?

Thx–I’ll download one and give it a go. It says that mpegs are a supported format, right in the Help documentation, so it seemed weird that it would freeze the program the second after I imported it…

I later found out that the person who shot the footage on the DVD shot it in HD–so that might have been the problem as well. I don’t think 1.5 handles HD, right?
