I haven’t done editing for a while and got a quick turnaround gig where the only way to access the video was on a DVD. I got the video converted from VOB to mpgs through my dvd production software, and was able to import them just fine into ppro 1.5. But when I try to put them on the timeline, or even just play them in the playback monitor, ppro freezes and crashes. Tried it several times. Can anyone please help me understand why this is happening and how to get it around it? I’m on an acer laptop with xp. thanks!

From memory PPro1.5 was not very good at handling MPG files.
What I used to do was convert the MPG or VOB files into an Uncompressed or DV format to edit in PPro.
There are plenty of freeware DVDtoAvi converters out there.

Thx–I’ll download one and give it a go. It says that mpegs are a supported format, right in the Help documentation, so it seemed weird that it would freeze the program the second after I imported it…

I later found out that the person who shot the footage on the DVD shot it in HD–so that might have been the problem as well. I don’t think 1.5 handles HD, right?

If probably can edit MPEG files that are stereo audio, not 5.1, not Dolby Digital Stereo. I’m not sure of the specific limits of the MPEG editing format/s but it remember it wasn’t able to handle all the audio formats that DVD’s could be coming in. Hope the converters work a treat.
