Ok. thanks for the info.
Does it matter that I was recording in 30p with the XL2? I think every time I use footage from the XL2 it interprets it the same way. Haven’t noticed a problem before.

I’ve (hopefully) attached the screenshot you asked about.
I really appreciate the input on my problem here.
I set up the project properties like this because I saw where it was supposed to improve the overall video quality, however, the terminal media for this is DVD, so would it really be a problem to just set the project properties to the DVD Architect Widescreen setting?

I’d have to agree with Steve. I don’t find SVP incompetent. This is the only thing I’ve found to be an issue with the audio side. Everything else I’ve needed it to accomplish, it has done so.
I’m primarily an audio guy, and I only occasionally open an audio track in another editor from SVP.

I’ll have to look into the Vegasaur toolkit a little more.
My current setup is to use volume envelopes, but using ducking or sidechain with a compressor would give much more professional results. I guess to be more specific, I was aiming at doing some EQ specific compressions through the sidechaining so the voice-over would “fit” in the mix a little better. It seems as though SVP is not really setup to handle it, though. I figured I’d give it a chance here.

Thank you all for your comments. I have not been able to recreate the problem my client had, but i have been able to learn a TON from you guys.
In regards to using WAV. I was rendering it at 48khz 16bit stereo so it would be compatible with DVD standards. I’m currently rendering the project with ac3 to see what this new territory is like.
As I’m trying to diagnose the issue I had, all I can think of that I did differently than other projects (of which all worked fine), is that I changed the peak and average bit rates. I lowered both of them. As I’ve learned on here, lowering the peak did not help lower my file size, which was my goal. I did lower the average bit rate, but nothing crazy. Could this have caused a DVD to become unplayable?
I’m supposed to pick up the culprit disk this afternoon. I’ve got a chicken dinner riding on the fact that I’m going to find a giant, greasy thumb print on the disc face that is the real problem…

I guess my use of wav format goes back to my days of audio only before I jumped into video. Is ac3 directly compatible with dvd architect pro, as in no re-rendering?
I wish I knew what the vbr settings were. I just remember that I would lower peak and average bit rates until it got to the right size.

I’m looking not at a PreSonus Audiobox 1818 VSL. I can use that and link my FireStudio Project via the S/PDIF in/out.
Can anyone comment on the Audiobox not playing nice with USB 3.0?

Hi, Richard.
Thanks for responding.
Not sure how exactly to describe the laptop. This is the info from way back when I ordered it: HP ENVY 17T-J100 Notebook, 17.3″ Full-HD 1080p, Intel Core i7-4700MQ Quad-Core 2.4GHz, 16GB DDR3, 1TB SATA, 802.11n, Win8.1Pro
I was afraid that is exactly what has happened in regards to the corner I seemed to have painted myself in. I have tried to find out about USB/Firewire converters, but I see conflicting things. I understand that the two formats are totally different, but I see some people saying it worked for them.
I love my FireStudio Project and wish there was some way to still use it.
