    Yeah, I read that, too.

Frankly, it doesn’t sound like a BIG jump. Sounds like maybe a few bug fixes, but based on that list on Sony’s website, isn’t that pretty much Pro 10 as well?

I guess there’s supposedly an accelerator of some sort, but that’s really all I see. Maybe I’m missing something.

    I’m so glad you responded!

I’m actually going through your Vegas Movie Studio HD training DVDs now! I just finished the Audio section on the second DVD, after finishing the first DVD yesterday. They’re very helpful.

“Even money says you’ve not got your laptop optimized.”

How do I get my laptop optimized? I do have AVG anti-virus running in the background.

Can you get Quad i7’s for laptops, or are they just for desktops? Maybe I ought to consider that, then.

  • OK.

I decided to do a system check again during playback of a couple of video clips with a simple crossfade.

In the Windows Task Manager, the most the CPU usage indicated during playback was 50%. Would only a 50% CPU usage amount cause the simple crossfade to be choppy–actually the crossfade doesn’t even show in the Preview window, the playhead simply keeps going and eventually the preview catches up and jumps to that point.

Again, I have an Acer system (I bought it this past October) with an i5 processor, 4GB of RAM. I’m running Sony Vegas HD 11.

    Thanks for any assistance.

Once I place them on my system, where is the Browse button so that Sound Forge can find them?

Also, I have Sound Forge Audio Studio, not the Pro version, so I don’t know if that makes a difference.

Under just the /shared plugins directory, or under …/sharedplugins/audio/?

  • In what situations would one want to use Render to New Track?

    Thanks, I’ll try that.

This is probably a dumb question, but why would someone use Take? Why not simply put the video clip you want in that spot to begin with? Why have a pile of video clips on top of each other?

Also, can you do Takes with audio?

Okay, this is where my confusion, and others I think, comes into play.

HOW do I know which codec I’m using? If I shoot a video, and bring it into Vegas, then render it, how do I know which codec was used? Can you choose a particular codec in Vegas at the time of rendering? Or is choosing a codec something that is done outside of Vegas?

    Thanks.

When you say they’re layered, is that, for example, the same video event (different takes of it) on the same track? Do you simply put them on top of each other on the same track, then?

  • Thanks.

In the meantime, I found a great article here:

    https://gizmodo.com/5093670/giz-explains-every-video-format-you-need-to-know

I learned a lot from it and it helped a lot!

But then, I have another question:

In the Sony Render As dialog, what is the difference between MainConcept AVC/AAC, Sony AVC/MVC, and XDCAM EX? All those seem to be in .mp4 formats.

Thanks again for all your help.
