Yes they advise this for safety reasons, but backing up all your data is not absolutely necessary for troubleshooting. Nevertheless it’s always good to have backups of your critical files.

Select the problematic clips on the Timeline and in the Inspector under the Video tab reset all the video parameters (Color, Transform, Crop etc…), even if they haven’t been modified. Another method is to remove the problematic stills from the Timeline and re-insert them again from within the Event Browser.
If this does not work or if you experience any other clips rendering as black frames you can try deleting all your Project render files before exporting.

Yes, they do this every year. As FCPX is clearly catching on over here we will probably see many more of these testimonies, and not only coinciding with events.

First make sure you are using the latest version of FCPX. There have been some render issues in earlier versions. If you have the latest version go to your problematic stills and reset their compositing parameters in the inspector. If the stills are animated re-do the animation after resetting, then export again.

I haven’t heard of any similar issues, but one thing you can try is to refresh (trash) your FCPX preferences.

All good advice. I don’t expect the new MacPro will be more expensive than any other high-end desktop, and it will be a killer machine for running FCPX and the other X pro-apps.
The new Final Cut Pro is absolutely worth learning. Just don’t make the mistake many have made by just “playing around with it”. It’s a very deep professional application that requires some time to practice on. But once you understand how it works under the hood you will be surprised how powerful it is.

Glad you found it. Any folder names referring to card structure folders (like DCIM or CONTENTS) seem to confuse FCPX. It’s a known issue. Send feedback to Apple.

When you create a new Project you first get a window where you can name your Project. In that window, next to Video Properties, you will see “Set based on first video clip”. Check that option then press OK.
