I would definitely establish that the cable and monitor work with another device. Can you monitor anything with that monitor over HDMI? I have a monitor that has 3 HDMI inputs and thought my T2i (same camera) was not working when I couldn’t get it to show up on the monitor. Then one day I tried it when I happen to NOT have anything plugged into the other HDMI inputs and voila! (This is a Sony Bravia)- makes no sense but it does work. If the monitor works with another source and the cable tests good, it must be the camera. In warranty?

#1 for me would be most useful. Don’t need the ISO or LCD stuff. Assuming you could (via camera’s USB port) set focus points then go from a to b to c etc. Do you have a price point?

Once when I was an art director, I was interviewing a kid for a graphic artist position. He had a great portfolio. In fact it included a gorgeous print piece. Unfortunately, it was one I HAD DESIGNED 3 years previous. Turns out he worked at the printing company where I’d had it printed. He was a stripper, burning plates for the press. Apparently he saved the stuff he really liked and put it in his “design” portfolio. I played dumb and asked where he got the idea for the design. He totally BS’d me. I didn’t say a word. But as you can imagine, he didn’t get the job.

  • I shoot mostly now with an EX-1, but still use a Z1U as B camera sometimes. I rarely try to capture from the tape anymore, but rather set the EX1 to “SQ” mode, connect it via firewire to my Sony HDV deck, then record the footage to an SxS card and import (or use AMA) as I would with any other tapeless footage. Just another avenue you might consider. Works for me. If I do capture straight from tape, I use the GD-HD700 and the Z1U template in the capture tool.
