In many great companies that I have known and/or been a part of, the sales director often makes more money than anyone else in the company. Their income often exceeds the CEO and/or president of the company.

Why?

Because REAL salespeople are highly motivated by their commissions. The great ones never become satisfied with their existing level of sales and are always looking for the next deal and the next commission.

Tying a person’s hands by giving them a “flat” is an idiot’s recipe for mediocrity. (Tell your co-host that I said that and point them to this thread, I would like to see how they defend such a stupid idea as the one they propose. Perhaps they have become too enamored of their visage and think they are worth more than a real bread winner. Clue? They aren’t. The fact that they got canceled should tell them that but apparently they weren’t listening.)

Without sales, they have nothing. By tying things to a “flat,” they will have little motivation for sales — and that is exactly what they will have, little sales.

Hi Dan,

We always update the bios when the leaders send in their updates. Unfortunately, we have so many leaders now that we cannot keep up with their new projects, etc., and so they have to send in the updates. (One of these days, we’ll get Abraham on an update to the site that gives the leaders direct access to their bio page. He has replaced everything else, so that looks to be one for the To Do list.)

They have moved out of the Los Angeles Convention Center — where they had been for years and in which they became ensconced in a small corner in recent years — to the Pasadena Convention Center. Pasadena is a nice town, one that I think is the closest thing to being a bit of San Francisco in the Southland. If you have never been there, it makes a nice visit and the Pasadena Convention Center is in a nice part of town with many wonderful shops, restaurants, etc. It’s a fun day trip if you want to blow through the show quickly and then take in some of the local flavor. (Remember that Van Halen, The Kaleidoscope and The Association were three bands that called the town home, so have them handy for the car or iPod player for vibe.) ;o)

Mostly camera companies attend now, and you may wish to attend for a chance to get your hands on cameras in Los Angeles. For that purpose, it is a good show as the camera manufacturers tend to bring units to the show.

Whereas Sony and Canon used to attend, they have dropped out and now it is down to Panasonic and JVC. Many optics and accessory companies are slated to attend, so you can take in their offerings at DV Expo.

The last year I attended, neither Adobe nor Apple were there. Even Sony Creative Software, makers of Vegas — who were slated to attend — canceled just before showtime. Avid attended but also has opted to not attend this year. So no Adobe, no Apple, no Sony, no Autodesk and no Avid. So if you are going with an interest in software, the pickings are pretty lean.

Google’s job is to archive everything and so people will eventually learn to be careful in what they do and say on the Net. Once it is in Google’s archive, it is not going to disappear.
