A “solution” is a tag for a technical answer that solves your problem.

A “kudo” is for posts that are more general in tone and larger in focus — such as the discussions that take place in our business forum — which are not technical questions but are great thoughts to consider when doing business, etc.

There are many discussions in the COW that are outside the focus of technical problems and “solution” does not work for these kinds of posts because they are not solving a problem but they are great posts with powerful ideas — hence, the “kudo” button.

I hope that explains the difference.

Almost daily, we see the names and emails of new members signing up that are based in China. They include Indians, Pakistanis, Scots, Irish, Russians, Germans, Americans, English, Spaniards, Latinos of North, Central and South American origin, Australians and many others.

It seems to have really escalated over the past 24 months. Before then, it was a trickle, now it is all the time, everyday.

In the erstwhile TV series, Firefly, all of the characters spoke Mandarin in addition to their native tongue. And as many of my friends who travel and work in China tell me, do not walk up to anyone over 25 and speak to them in English — they will just look at you confused. But walk up to anyone under 25 and speak English and they will almost nearly always reply back to you in English.

Yes, the world is changing.

We use our bookkeeper, who is in regular communication with our CPA. We also have quarterly meetings with our CPA to assess where things are, what the year is going to look like forecasted out to the end, so we can move money from the profit column to the expense column and not carry the tax burden we would if we didn’t do it.

That’s part of our strategy.

While I understand what Walter means by this and know that he would never wish to imply all it takes is talent and equipment to succeed, I feel obligated (for those that find this thread later on) to add that the missing ingredients are the intangibles of the character and commitment level (read: stick-to-it-iveness) of the person heading the business.

Hello Preston,

Thanks for the kind words about Creative COW, they are appreciated. Spot is a great teacher, I have seen him teaching classes a number of times and he is always very informative and inspiring.

Regarding reels: we have many news and other types of reels related to cinematography and shooting. The problem we had with your reel was that it simply was far too long. We see the stats and no reel at 16 minutes would likely to ever be completed. Few people finish the 5 minute reels. Good reels should be one to two minutes in length. Even cinematography reels. Show your very best stuff, not all or most of your stuff. Leave the audience wanting more, not wanting to go find something else.

I am not trying to be mean, just to explain what the purpose of the reels section is and how best to use it.

We took off for a few days to visit with members of the COW Team in Oregon. We just got back so the team has been short-handed for a few days but is now back at full strength.

We never guarantee to post every post. We are a professionals support site and there are some questions and answers that do not become a part of the site. Why? Because we began 15 years ago as a site dedicated to supporting peer-to-peer support for people working in broadcast, film, corporate, and other forms of video. We have elected to maintain that focus and so not every post that is made is going to show up (as some of them would erode the signal level of the site).

We also do not guarantee that posts will be approved within minutes. Most times, posts go up right away. But there are a few very rare times when due to circumstances such as our trip to Oregon, we may take longer.
