[Nick Griffin] “So… any thoughts on this, or on alternative ways to say “no thanks” to people for whom we’d rather not work?”
Considering that the client got in her face yelling and would not have the professionalism or class to apologize, I think that all pretense of professionalism is out the window and I wouldn’t bother to call back.
Others may disagree but I wouldn’t bother. In fact, I can be so hard-nosed about this kind of thing that I’d probably leave a voicemail that the only call I’ll accept going forward is one that starts with a sincere apology.
But hey, that’s just me. (And those who know me well, can attest that I am just as hard-nosed on myself and am just as likely to extend an apology where needed.)
Sometimes, professionalism is just so…well, unprofessional.

[Nick Griffin] “She doesn’t feel at home on the COW…”
Did she mention why? I’d love to hear her comments, if she made any as to why.

When you are logged-in, you can now change the poster frame associated with your video. A link appears on the clip (to the clip’s owner only), when they are logged-in.

October 9, 2010 at 2:49 am in reply to: Still images vs Video. Why do we have to choose?[Jared Cicon] “I posted a forum thread in what I thought was the most appropriate location on the COW relative to my need for information only to discover that Still Photography was really not given much attention here. To be frank, I received the distinct impression I was breaking some unspoken taboo by asking such questions. I was surprised to discover that the CC had no forums dealing with how the Canon could be used for dual purposes on the same shoot for the same client, or what were the best lighting techniques with which to employ the 5D/7D in a still photography application.”
Hello Jared,
I am a wee bit perplexed that there are people who would look down their noses at still photography here in this site, as we have always championed the idea that “the more brushes one has and the more diverse those brushes are, if practiced and the craft refined, the more skilled the painter will be.”
I myself never call myself a videographer and never did, I call myself a communicator and always did. I do whatsoever the client needs to get their point across. If that is video great. If that is still photography, (which I am many times better at than video, having studied with two of the best still photography teachers in California for years), that is what I use. If it’s print, great. If it’s the web, let’s go. If it’s portable devices, well…I’m learning. ;o)
As the world changes, the more brushes one has, the better one is apt to be at putting food on one’s table — and that’s a good thing. 😉
Please feel free to email me direct (the contact us link in the upper left will get you here) and send me your phone number, I’d appreciate the chance to chat and get your feedback, as we are always looking to make the COW better in the days ahead.
Thank you for your honest criticism, Jared. It is appreciated.

I’d tell the loser to bring cash. And before I’d edit the thing, I’d get my wife to take the money out of the building and go deposit it.
Oh, and I’d charge him a penalty for being such an idiot.
Some others might disagree.
No way in hell I’d do it for a check or a credit card — which can be canceled in most states for at least 30 days, sometimes more.

Hi Mike,
As Abraham said in his reply, we are working on a new interface that will be going live very shortly. It is an interface that we are going to be rolling out systematically, area by area. The first area to get it will be the my.creativecow.net sub-domain and then we will move to the reels.creativecow.net sub-domain.
But getting back to the 1280 videos, you can upload them now and while they may look odd sticking out beyond the edges of the current interface, they will fit quite nicely in the new interface — an interface that will support wider display areas.

Craig is right, again. ;o)
Once you lock yourself into a reputation as a “low-baller,” you are almost guaranteed to be stuck there for years — if you ever get out, at all.
“Some work is better than no work” seems like good advice on the surface but I have seen far too many people in my near 60 years of drawing air on Planet Earth that paid for years for letting themselves do jobs that were done cheaply.
Work cheap and do the job with cheap work, and the reputation of doing crappy work will hurt you. Work cheap and do good work and the reputation of being a low-baller that works for nothing will hurt you.
Don’t ever cheaply sell out your work, which are your Crown Jewels.

[Paul Carlin] “No support for Blu-Ray (Yes, sorry to break it to you, but Blu-Ray won the battle).”
A better way to say this, Paul, would be that “Blu-ray won the right to be the last ‘hard’ mass format to die before digital files completely replaced them.”
Sure, there will be ‘hard’ formats for deliverables in some cases and for a few other instances, but just as MP3s have replaced CDs for music sales, the same is happening in this market, as well.
But I’d agree with you that Blu-ray should have been on the Mac years ago. “Give the people what they want,” goes the old adage. But at this point in time, Blu-ray is all downhill from here on out.
I have noticed that most stores in our area have very small and limited Blu-ray displays. The brunt is still SD DVDs. In some stores, the Blu-ray section is smaller than it was 12 to 18 months ago.
In another 5 to 10 years, there won’t be DVDs and you’ll have to buy them the same way that audiophiles buy LPs today. They exist, but it’s hardly a mass market.
