Frank Otto already gave you a lot of great information, so I will just clarify this point: You refer to skateboard videos as if they used the music without paying, etc.
One of the largest windsurfing/kiteboarding video companies in the world (they used to do skateboarding videos also, years back) is right here in my town. I pop over to chat with Brian the owner from time to time and he told me that on his last project, the music rights cost him far more than did everything else in the entire production added together. But for his market, it has to be *the* music that his audience expects and wants or it isn’t going to sell.
Adding the artist’s name, song name, label, etc., is not going to protect you in the event that you have not cleared the rights to use the music. The Harry Fox Agency (who used to be the quickest and cheapest way to secure rights for music) no longer does this, so you now are pretty much on your own having to directly contact the publisher to secure rights. They usually do not want to bother with this and blow you off by hitting you with a cost that is so prohibitive that all but the deepest pockets will reel from the blow.
A safer way to go — and far cheaper too — if your market can be served with it, is to consider a tool like Sonicfire Pro which allows you to quickly cut music to the shot length and do it all using rights-cleared royalty-free music. Depending on your project, it may be a viable option.

We are working as quickly as possible to smooth out some of the bumps in the road. The transitioning to the quad Opteron has been a big job as finding anyone who knew what to do with a quad Opteron on Linux is quite a job in and of itself. ;o)
Once you get there, the job has just begun and in a major transitioning of a system like the Cow, there are always going to be glitches that arise.
I have asked Eric to look into the font issue and he is working on that and the search engine and getting the usernames in red text thingie all done concurrently. I have asked him to grow three more sets of arms but he has been hesitant to comply. I have told him that in this age of downsizing, to not cooperate is asking to have his job sent offshore. He has said that he will “try” to grow the aforesaid three new sets of arms but that it may take him a while and so users may have to be patient with him.
Kathlyn just came into the office and threatened to remove his intravenous coffee drip-feed unless he got the usernames-in-red thingie going and so he complied immediately. He has not responded to my threats of downsizing with the same level of verve and so I may have to resort to enticements of a more redheaded variety or something…

Thanks, Charlie. The quad Opteron really screams and we are hearing from people all around the world who have written us to say, “Wow! This is f-a-a-s-s-s-t-t-t!!!” and stuff like that. Nice to hear as the Cow had gotten so slow lately, I really struggled surfing it.
Yes, there are bugs and cookie issues that need to be ironed out and are getting ironed out very quickly. (We squashed a bunch yesterday and have a few more we’ve squished this morning and by day’s end, I am sure things will have settled down quite a bit.)
Being that this is an entirely new box with an entirely different mechanism, that is why the cookies need to be reset when you visit the forums you are used to visiting.
In the end, it is going to be a far superior solution and well worth the changeover issues.
