Kathlyn and I have to run to see a stageplay in an hour or two but when I get back, I will lay out a graphic showing how it works. If I haven’t posted it in the next 24 hours, please rattle the bars of my cage as I get really busy.

Can you please give us the sub-settings you are using (aside from the Acrobat 5 that you mentioned), so that we can troubleshoot your settings and see where the problem might hail from?
The more complete your settings and feedback, the easier it will be for those here to want to answer and give you real help.
If you can do screen captures of the settings dialog screens you are using, please feel free to send them to me at ron@creativecow.net and I will go through them.

Are you saying that the magazine will be Pantone brown with white text and images knocked out from the brown or will you have white pages with Pantone brown text and images?

Is it possible to see an example of what you are trying/want to do?
Can you send a copy of that page of your project so that I can see it?
I think I know what you are trying to do but am still not 100% sure.

I just checked a few of my InDesign books/tomes here and I do not see anything like this. I will do some more digging and see what I can find. I know that it has to be doable as it’s actually pretty common in the print world.

The PDF printer is likely using a different setting than when you are printing to your printer. Me, I’d make a copy of your project and try changing the settings for your printer and see how it effects your print out.

Hi Jan,
I just wanted to apologize for not being able to leave the booth and visit anyone while at NAB. I had been pretty sick for a couple weeks before NAB and was so burned out at NAB that I didn’t go hardly anywhere. I would have liked to have popped by and said hello but giving away 8,000+ magazines in four days was a real grind and we were all working bell-to-bell.

You are quite entitled to your opinion and even while I may be touchy about things, it does not undo the fact that you are indeed right about the typos in the magazine.
Still, I am delighted that for a magazine on which I never had time to run the spell checker, as I worked right up until the time I had to jump into the car and drive six hours to deliver the mag to the printer, it has far fewer typos than many magazines I have seen over the years.
I am going to add your address to a new folder called “proofreaders” that I have set in my email system. I would appreciate a fresh set of eyes.

Yes, my apologies for not catching them in the second revision, Nick. I caught them in the first version but I was so burned out by the second draft that I was seeing only black and white, words were little more than objects that were glazed areas of light and dark on the screen.

That happens when you work your butt off on something that half kills you getting it out.
As I joked with someone the other day: “I gave birth to a magazine and have all the paper cuts to prove it.” Now there’s a mental image for you…
