Do you see right/down combobox “Write Speed”?
    Right – button “book”
click on it, or menu->tools->drive->change book type
select you recorder model and setting for DVD+R to DVD-ROM

/* burn image with another, 3rd party, application – i’ve got Nero 6 (would that work? Or does it have to be IMGBurn?) */

    https://www.imgburn.com/
ImgBurn is software for recording any types DVD-Video to disks (dvd5/9, image or VIDEO_TS folder)
    Nero6 CAN NOT write images RIGHT….. so…

/* Not sure what you mean by ‘book-type’? */
    book-type “tells” to dvd-player what kind of disk is inserted – DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-ROM, DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL.
No all players can play +R or -R disks, but all can play DVD-ROM (by book-type, not by media)
+R and +R DL disks can be written with setting DVD-ROM and be playabe on all players (my last test – OOOLD LG player can play +R DL disk).

    and, ImgBurn is free!

    I’m not a wishmaster 🙂

    How you create DVD-Video disk:
    – MPEG2 Encoder ?
    – Writing to disk – software?
    – Disk – manufacturer?
    – DVDRecorder’s name, speed, settings?
    – Win Version?
    – AE version?

For 100000% compability need to do this:
    1. create an image file of project
    2. set DVD-ROM book-type to your recoder by IMGBurn software
    3. write to disk by IMGBurn software

    thats all….:)

if you use CCE or ProCoder you NEED to set 16..235 because any composition/editing software makes it better – no need use CCEs or CPC2 16..235 or ShinkColorSpace…
If you use mainConcept encoder (Adobe Premiere, etc) – then you not need to set levels because encoder automatically set it.

Hm..only for testing: try to create video only disk, and see it
You must be sure, that AC3 file is no corrupt

IMHO “3500, CBR” will be best choice. Then, you need 9 DVD-5 disks 🙂

    bitrate based 🙂

    total bitrate = disk_size / min / 60 * 8 * 0.96
    video_butrate = total_bitrate-sounds_bitrate

if you want to place 19hrs to dvd:…
    1. take dvd-9 disk
    2. encode video to 0.9Mbps, 352×480 (576)
    3. encode audio to 64k
    4. author in scenarist/dvdlad/maestro/dvdstudio
