Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried the export+/import+ idea and it didn’t solve the issue.
It would be one thing if I didn’t have access to my old stills but I can’t even view new ones I grab.I also tried doing the XML thing but this is an avid originated project and when importing the XML I get a an error about some effects that aren’t found.

What if you run into this problem. The pre-graded media had tape names in Avid but when I bring the graded media back into Avid it has different tape names like “msmMMOB.03” I don’t understand why the tape names changed. More importantly, I don’t know how to proceed given the discrepancy.Also, do you have any insight into the issue I described which is what do you do when you have multiple instances of a shot in the sequence that you need to grade differently?
And what do you do about AAF exports? I usually need to do a lot of manual adjustments to the edit in Resolve so how do you get those adjustments to translate back to Avid?
Any info would be appreciated.

Can you explain why exporting an AAF requires an original AAF to build from whereas exporting an XML can be done from scratch in Resolve?roman hankewycz

What are you talking about?
I’m talking about the ripple settings for group correction. You access these settings by right-clicking on the active shot within a group in the timeline.Does your comment still apply?

Resolve will only “see” prores files if they have the .mov extension. So you should rename all the batch exported files so they have the .mov extension, then Resolve will see them with no problems.
When doing a batch export in the future be sure to click on “settings”, “set naming options,” and select “add file type extension.” Then you won’t have this problem again.

Hey Mats,
I’ve experienced this before. In FCP locate the 4444 file in the browser and look at its alpha settings. Make sure it’s set to NONE. This should take care of it. Also you may notice that when you cut that clip into a timeline it comes up with a render bar above it, once you change the alpha setting to none this will go away.roman hankewycz

How is Resolve set to read the reel info for clips in the media pool? Make sure that you have the right pattern for deriving the reel name from the file name.

The way the autosave works in Resolve floored me the first time I found myself needing it.
Basically your system is working normally. Resolve doesn’t keep a list of backed up projects the way that Final Cut does with the Autosave Vault or Avid with the Attic. When you set Resolve to autosave [to backup project] it incrementally saves backups of the project (as seen in the autosave list) but then those backups are overwritten once a real save is performed.
This comes in handy if Resolve crashes and you haven’t saved in half an hour. However it doesn’t help you if you realize that something in your project got messed up while you worked and saved along the way.
To work around this, I’ve gotten in the habit of versioning my projects by using the “save as” command. My first project for a job is named NAME_V01, and then I when I feel I’ve gotten to a milestone I’ll save the project as NAME_V02. That way I can go back in time if need be.
This should really be addressed as it can be maddening not to be able to go back in case something gets seriously messed up.roman hankewycz
