Unless you have 1000 different projects and their proxies dotted at random places around your file system you should only have to set up a mapping once for the root of your media hierarchy.
If I set up a proxy path mapping
/Volumes/Media => /Volumes/CatDV/Proxies
then that covers ALL the projects on my media volume:
/Volumes/Media/Project1
/Volumes/Media/Project2
…
/Volumes/Media/Project1000 -
Unfortunatey QuickTime on Windows does have problems with some file paths, so if you experience problems try to avoid filenames (and folder names) longer than 31 characters or containing accented characters. Also, switching between drive letters and UNC paths can sometimes help.

Perhaps the CatDV settings are different on that machine (If you’re using local settings, rather than settings loaded from the server each time when you log on)?
What happens if you try to play clips on the affected machine? Use the toolbar play button. That’s useful for diagnosing problems as it tries really hard to play the file and displays a message if it can’t.

Some typical uses of the web client include:
– review & approval by clients or producers accessing system remotely
– give other employees in a large organisation occasional search and browse access to the media library without needing to install full CatDV Pro application on their machines
– provide a simple youtube-like interface to allow university students search through online lectures etc. -
It defaults to merging the data (or ‘set if blank’), but we’ll maybe add a warning so it asks for confirmation before overwriting the metadata on multiple clips.

Thanks for the file. We do see some “invalid time values” warnings with that file which might explain why it doesn’t work as a proxy but we’ll investigate and let you know.

It actually seems to be down to whether the movie is being shown bigger than 960×540, rather than whether you use the separate media dialog window or not. We’re still investigating whether this a problem in CatDV or a QuickTime codec bug.

What do you mean by “query settings”? Any settings that are persisted (such as which fields are shown in the “simple” query dialog) are saved to the server under the production group settings, so when you log on to the server and choose which group you’re working under that will control which query settings you are using.

You should provide a list of tabs to show or hide, one per line. They need to exactly match the name of the tab, case is sensitive.
If a tab is normally visible but the logged in user’s role marks it as disabled then it won’t be shown. If a tab is normally invisible (the visible checkbox in the Customise Details Panel preferences is unchecked) but it’s in the list of enabled tabs for the current role then it will be shown. If the same tab name appears in both columns then the results are undefined, but I can’t think of any reason why you’d want to do that other than to break the software!

I’m sorry we don’t have an answer on this one. -1309 is a “file bounds error”, so is almost certainly related to hitting a 2GB or 4GB file size limit, but I don’t know why some machines are affected and not others. It might be related to the type of network file system you are using or the versions of Mac OS X or QuickTime you’re using. If you can come up with a workflow where you can make proxies successfully on at least one machine then I would suggest sticking with that. Once you have the proxies they should work on any machine.
