problems reading proxies by Windows laptop which where generated on a Mac
I’m a Mac guy so have no experience with windows.
I created a catalogue on Mac and created proxies (custom setting of H264 640×360, AAC 128)
when I transfer the catalogue and proxies to a windows laptop, CatDV reads the catalogue no problem but doesn’t see the proxies. I checked that the file path is correctly set in preferences. The QT video files play fine on the windows QT or windows player outside of CatDV.
Importing the proxy files into a new catalogue as new media doesn’t work either. CatDV just can’t read the video format?? Also tried creating movies with Mpeg4 or Jpeg codec at 640×360 and linear PCM audio on my mac, they aren’t playable in CatDV on Windows either?
Any ideas why the the CatDV windows version doesn’t like the proxy files?

what format is the Windows drive? Then we have to worry about the version of the OS on both Mac and Windows to get them to play nicely together.

I’ve not run into it if QT can play them. Usually it’s path related but if you can’t even drag them into CatDV that’s odd.
I’m gonna throw out “Java version?” as a hail Mary.

Already thought about Java version, but the Windows laptop is with my client now so I have to wait to test.

Drive is Fat32, but we also transferred the proxy files to the internal drive of the Windows laptop, and same result.
OSX is 10.6.8. Don’t know Windows version? Laptop is with client so have to check later.

my client came back with:
Java 6 Standard Edition – version 6, update 17 (build 1.6.0_17-b04) / Im pretty sure its windows 7We’re both using CatDV 9.0.6 professional

I used long file names with dash characters on the Mac.
Windows, or maybe Java for Windows, doesn’t like those 🙁
Change the name and all is good.

Good to know. Wonder if it was the length of the name? As a survivor of 8.3 file names I avoid “odd” characters. My graphics people tend to use hyphens and underscores, which make the file names work better on the web.

Unfortunatey QuickTime on Windows does have problems with some file paths, so if you experience problems try to avoid filenames (and folder names) longer than 31 characters or containing accented characters. Also, switching between drive letters and UNC paths can sometimes help.
