When pasting tracking data, you should ensure that AE’s Timeline Indicator matches the in-point of the clip. This may be different to when you tracked (blue bar in mocha). This problem occurs frequently when a user shifts a clip’s in-point after starting their tracking task.

Please ensure that this is not the case. If this is not related to your issue then please explain what and how you have keyframed in mocha.

If you’ve already tracked the screen, then all you need to do is to draw a new spline to encompass the entire face. Then link this new spline/layer to the tracking layer. If your original track was solid, you should be fine. Otherwise, you will need to keyframe the second spline such that it accurately fills the face.

You will have to be mindful of fingers encroaching into the face area. When you are done in mocha, you export BOTH the corner tracking data and the shape data. The shape data is required to account for the rounded corners on the face – use this as a matte for your replacement face image.

The tracking data is required so that the perspective and positional changes are correctly represented after you insert the replacement screen.

You can use the Exposure effect to brighten your footage in a precomp. Then track the precomp after you’ve nested it. Hopefully, this will allow you to see the required track points with sufficient clarify.

You should also be able to track the window and use the tracking data to place your nebula. Ideally, you will apply the tracking data onto a Null Object and then parent the nebula to this Null Object. Then nudge the nebula into its preferred position.

Since you’re new, you should look at creating keyframes manually to achieve the effect. Another option is to use Motion Sketch and then the Smoother (if required).

Use AE’s Help Menu to get you to the right places for additional documentation on the buzz words I’ve mentioned.

You should commit the Parenting structure when the Timeline Current Indicator (TCI) is on the Null’s first keyframe – or earlier. This preserves the integrity of the child layer’s transform keyframes that were created earlier in the Timeline prior to Parenting.

It sounds like you committed to the Parenting structure after the Null’s first transform keyframe.

It is not clear, in your post, if you adjusted points on the tracking spline or the Planar Surface. Take note that you should be adjusting the points on the tracking spline since the Planar Surface is essentially a child layer of the tracking spline. IOW, the Planar Surface reacts to tracking data that is acquired within the tracking splines.

For tracks that seem to misbehave or require finessing, you should use the Adjust Track module. It is in this module that you manually adjust the Planar Surface to perfectly fit your tracking requirements if the tracking module doesn’t provide you with sufficiently precise tracking results.

With specifics to your tracking task, I would try to track the entire screen instead of the parts that you have indicated with the tracking spline. A larger area will almost always lead to more tracking accuracy. You should also look at applying Perspective tracking and ensuring that Percentage of Pixels used is set to a high value – 90% will be a good number.
