Nick, is your new SSD named exactly the same as your old disk. My thoughts are that the recovery partition is linked to Disk X and not Disk XX. So the recovery partition may be looking for Disk X. If you remember the exact name of your old disk, try changing the name of the SSD to the name of the previous disk where the recovery partition was created.

I have to agree with the comments by Shane and Nick. The original code for FCP was written a long time ago for PPC processors and although tweaked to run on Intel Mac’s it cannot take advantage of the more modern architecture. As such your nice ATi5770 isn’t really working to it’s full potential because FCP7 was never programmed to use GPU acceleration or rendering. Also as Nick says, being 32bit FCP can only access 4Gigs of ram, but in practice 2.6gigs regardless of how much ram is available.
I’m curious about Andreas comment. FCP legacy has to my knowledge never been processor aware and can only utilize one processor or core, unlike Compressor which can be set to use as many cores that are available. It’s all water under the bridge now but it would be interesting if Andrea could elaborate on running several versions of FCP on the same Mac – just out of interest.
Bret, I think it’s fair to say that most of us still love FCP legacy but it has become boxed in by the advances of hardware and operating systems. It still works a well in the correct environment as it did 10 years ago, but no better. If you are not content with that then a 64bit Mac and an NLE which can take advantage of the new hardware is the way to go. I still dive into FCP6 from time to time but mainly FCPX and Resolve these days. I suggest you get a later Mac and you’ll be able to run them all if you have a separate boot volume for FCP7. -
Hi Trevor, I suggest the AJA I/O Express, the older version and not the current Thunderbolt model. It consists of a PCIE card and breakout box. This is Avid qualified and will drive your monitor via HDMI and provide analogue audio out. I have seen them for sale on ebay for a very reasonable price.

Bouke, this is very interesting. Curt says he was capturing Apple Prores 422. Could you write a hypothetical command line for that so that we can see what it should look like. You mentioned audio, does this need to be addressed separately even if the audio was recorded by the camera/s. More info would definately be apreciated.

Without knowing what method you used for live capture it would suggest you copy the whole file to another disk to preserve what you already have. Then on the copied file change the extension to .mov instead of av then try to open in QT. You can also download the media info app which may give some insight into what your AV file actually is, then work from there.

Jim, after reading Tom’s post, and yours again, perhaps I misunderstood you. Are you saying that you are only monitoring from the back of the deck and only seeing the problem there?
