first you should place it in the context of the screen and typography. first create a still frame to see how big is it there. lowerthirds are not logo reveals and require less sophisticated animation to not draw too much attention. do you have this file as an Illustrator file? if you do, you may have more options for the animation. a general advice would be to reveal it with the flow of the shape and with respect to the context of the brand this logo represents. maybe from the center outwards.

about the text – why not retouch the maps in photoshop while maintaining the spirit of design? you could content aware the text parts of these maps and replace them with Live text (same font) that could scale in or out as you zoom in or out to your map. these maps are created for paper and not for screen, and if possible they should be adjusted accordingly because you would not be able to read it on screen.

I would recommend the excellent Mark Christiansen courses on Lynda. he is the master in VFX in Ae. read about him here:
https://www.lynda.com/Mark-Christiansen/663622-1.html. for deep understanding take Chris and Trish Meyer https://www.lynda.com/Chris-Meyer/137-1.html. their book CMG in Ae is my bible and it’s 750 pages.other than that I know fxphd had great courses but I have not seen anything special in Ae. I say subscribe to lynda. learn everything Chris and Trish Meyer has to say about this software to get a deep under the hood understanding of it. and for techniques take Mark Christiansen.
I don’t know about any other high end stuff.

Great. the backdrop looks a bit sharp to my taste. looks too CGI I think. I would try a bit more shine or something to blur it out a bit. this is fun stuff you are doing, I had horror aspirations in the past. I even got into screamfest L.A film festival with a crappy 5 minute zombie move… but I have forsaken them… maybe on day I will get a chance to do something again with this genre… Goodluck!

Why? you have many tutorials right in the Adobe site page: https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/tutorials.html make sure you run through all of them. right after that, as Dave suggested, take a Lynda course. later when you know what to look for you can go to Youtube and test out different trainers.
