unfortunately I don’t see a way to resolve this. other than pre-compose. Ae’s render order limitation does not allow you to seperate operation in the way you want. rotating the layer even with an effect, will not affect the puppet motion path visibility. you could keep both windows open and manipulate the path in the layer window while looking how it looks in the comp window.

[Albert Kowalski] “It’s related to both parenting and 3D. If it’s not 3D the parenting doesn’t mess it up. “
anytime you parent a layer with puppet pins, 3d or not, there will be an offset in the motion path overlay if the parent is not positioned on 0,0.
the workaround for this is to open the layer in the layer window. if it’s a comp, you can do that by alt+clicking twice. or you can right click->open->open layer.
here’s what I mean:

as Richard said you need a duplicated copy of all the hierarchy. you can do this manually or import the project to itself. if there are expressions relating certain things between comps this could get messy, a common tool to duplicate comps is true comp duplicator script.

checking this is not related to the 3D, but because of the parenting.
not exactly sure why there is an offset caused to puppet motion path and if this a bug .puppet pins motion path is unique I think that they are the only point controls motion path that are available visually in the comp window other than position or anchor point transforms. as a good practice it would probably be best to alt+click on the comp to open in it in the footage window, and there you will see the motion paths in the right place and you can manipulate it there directly.

by what you are describing, the pins motion path should not be offset by the parenting.
can you show a screenshot or screen capture?Roei Tzoref

you could create multiple keyframes: 1. for extruding the text 2. for advancing the text forward
this way it will look as the extrude is pushing forward instead of backwardsRoei Tzoref

please explain if you see a problem/disadvantages in this workflow:
a footage layer, I want to slow down, it ends at some point so I don’t have enough of the container of the footage, I use time remapping to get more container of that layer (without doing anything to the TR keyframes) so I can manipulate what I need with twixtor directly on the footage. this has always worked for me in twixtor (about a decade of use maybe more I think).here’s a recording: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1f8-9dZ-V3pWOzMSuUiAZfgiRAlOFMotY/view?usp=drivesdk
