Cory: “Let’s see you champion this forum for 10 years… …There was nothing condescending in his posts to you. Seriously, thicken your skin and be grateful that ANYONE helped you out for FREE.”
I never said I was “hurt” (having such apparent thin skin) by Dave’s condescension. I simply made a suggestion so that maybe the forums can speak with clarity and without un-needed remarks like “I don’t understand why you don’t just simply…” Beginning any sentence with those words will ALWAYS read with condescension, whether it is intended or not. Use the English language appropriately when you can not speak it with inflection.
“Thanks for your concern, there Cory. I didn’t know Dave needed a spokesman” (Condescendingly)
Also, you nor Dave “helped me out for FREE.” Attempting to help is not the same thing as helping.
You may take your own advice and thicken your skin. I’m sure this isn’t the first time you tried to help, and appreciation seemed to be lacking as the problem turned out to be user error, resolved without your guidance.
Cheers, and Happy Friday.
I’m not trying to be a jerk, I just hope for the pretension that exists so apparently in our industry to be lessened, and I’m doing my best to point it out as I see it. (You can point mine out just as obviously.)
Please respond to posts with clarity, and professionalism – that is my desire. I don’t need to guess or infer how you are feeling or thinking about my projects or pleas for help, I just want information.
If one does not like to champion a forum for 10 years, then one should not. My guess is that it makes Dave feel good to help, and I was pointing out a certain trend that I have seen in Dave’s posts, that may cause him to be helping less than he intends.
Thanks for all the free advice. It truly is appreciated. I hope you don’t dislike me for being honest and argumentative.

PS: Your last post (blending options via 1.0Gamm etc.) was ABSOLUTELY free help and I am very appreciative. Have a nice weekend Cory, and I apologize if this response is unwarranted. I felt it was, however.

OK! I have figured it out, with no definitive clarity on how to solve the issue.
During my initial flip through composite modes with the original tifs I had accidentally left the switch to Luminescent Premul. So everytime I reloaded the footage it remained with the white Halo. However. When I imported the tifs originally I had the same halo problem and the mode was set to Normal.
So now I’m using the masked PSD on top of the original WS tif.
The PSD is RGB 32-bit.
I’m sorry if my inattention to detail has cluttered this post.
What is the benefit/downfall of using 32-bit PSD into AE? If any?
Thanks for all your help, guys.
And Dave, you may want to sound less condescending in your posts. I’ve been reading your posts for several months, and I think you might do well, to not use words like simply, and obviously. Or maybe you just think we’re all stupid, but I doubt that, as most of your posts are quite helpful, and informed/knowledgable.
Thanks Again

My original process was to use the two tifs (CU and WS) straight into AE and mask the CU to blend into the large WS photograph. I’ve tried RGB 8-bit and 32-bit PSD’s now. I can’t find blending options in my comp settings.

This is the kind of idea behind what I’m doing if I was unclear at the bottom of my post.

A black solid would hide the layer behind it, so that’s out of the question.
Masking a solid, wouldn’t work either. I need the CU image — a 1920×1517 CU, to blend with a larger team photo — A 1920×1348 WS. So that when I zoom it doesn’t get pixelated. I believe I explained this in my initial post. If I didn’t, I’m sorry for being unclear.

Now what if I want it to be a 3D timeline, like the one in the title intro for this video. Roughly 25 seconds into the video. The mask + Motion Tile just doesn’t cut it.

Hi there, I know this was already covered, but redundant solutions are always welcome in my book. I was having this problem with Nested sequences, and the advice to go into each sequence and render each one then go to your Master timeline and render all the nests worked like a charm. Thanks for having this problem before me, everybody!
