July 16, 2013 at 6:13 pm in reply to: convert 23.98 to 59.94 for monitoring

    Hello,
I would like confirmation from anyone using MC 6.5 and an intensity pro card that it CAN NOT IN FACT
PLAYBACK 23.98. Just build a brand new 3.33 6-core 10.8.3 MC 6.5.3 hoping to use HDMI as a monitor
(monitor only system have SDI for grading)

After much investigation… I believe although AVID labels it as “P” they really output “Psf” which is not
supported via HDMI. This doesn’t explain why it does not work component out. Both Blackmagic and AVID
claim this card is supported. It does work with FCP as a cross convert to 59.94. I see they offer a deckling
mini monitor that supports Psf but I would image it is only via SDI and then would need a SDI to HDMI converter.

I have two other systems running AVID and AJA cards that do this conversion via SDI.
    ANYONE ELSE?

    Thanks

Thanks Bob and Walter, I found the de-embedded out on the monitor which was a nice surprise. Since
I usually go in and out in SDI. I feel comfortable that what I hearing and seeing is correct. When I do have to go through the mackie I will test that 0 will work. My original test was playing out via the mackie and using the internal on the monitor. In theory will these be in sycn? I was also using old Roland speakers (yes the old Avid ones) with line input only. I replaced them with Altec Lansing in order to get to the mini-output.
    Thanks

A week later and I’m caught up. No I was just trying to make an (Lt) version
as a reference project removing the extra media from the multi-cam. (need space for
other projects) My solution was to remove the audio and MM as video only.
Then I did a another MM with audio only then cut and pasted the two together
then re-did MM so that I have a clean (hopefully) off-line that will match back to the SR-Tapes.
I seem to remember a similar problem when going from 4.5 to 5 FCP?
    Thanks guys

ok sorry for the frantic Sunday night post… should be watching football. Same deal except when
I delete the MC it still crashes!! Here’s the deal 10cam 2hr concert. Client has been dragging feet with
mix now it’s in and wants to lay to tape ASAP. This thing has been sitting on my drives as ProRes LT
for (2) months. (FCP 7, 2×2.26 Quad, 10gb RAM) I try to export to media manger and Crash! I delete
all other versions of the seq and crash! look at the size of the project and it triples… 176mb? Orginal is 44. I cut the sequence in half and try PT1, PT2 crash. I try XML export Crash! I guess it EDL for me.
Jeremy, Might remember I was looking for a way to do this in 6.5 as Photo-Jpeg to keep files size down.
Anyway, anyone notice that the trim monitor doesn’t work in FCP7… or that subclips don’t update correctly when using speed ramp? And that Particle world crashes CS4 in this machine? Oh wait that’s another forum. Any Help is appreciated.
    Thanks

yes I want all the camera’s to play smoothly in the offline… I might have to re-think the work-flow.
I just read the white paper on Pro-rez. Your original thought of Pro-rez proxy seems the best to keep
the frame size and at 17mpbs it would be less than Dv25 at the same frame size. I just have a little fear of starting a new project not knowing all the “undocumented features” of FCP7. Anyone else have any thoughts?
    Thanks

I have it on a dual boot. I don’t really trust it yet as I’ve experienced frame drifts on edit to tape and
some other little issues. I know that 6.05 is pretty solid and would prefer to use this as I’ll need to up-rez. thanks for the quick reply!

Maybe I’m missing something. I up-graded to a new powerbook pro 2.4 intel with OSX10.5.1
and upgraded from After effects 6.5 to CS3. All my other plug-ins show up except for Zaxwerks. I’m running classic 3D invig. It’s in the After-effects plug-ins but I can’t find it in the effects tab.?

Ok. Does Motion support keyable elements that do not have an embedded alpha channel?
    ANSWER: YES
    elements:
    1) Fill – a moving statue (gold) over black
    2) Matte – same moving statue white over black

(i.e) in after effects- stack a matte over a fill and select Track mat Luma. (keys over BG)
in FCP stack a fill over a matte over a BG and select composition mode travel matte luma

I discovered I was on the right path by applying an image mask (makes sense) and now have it working… my mistake was trying to drag the movie Icon or Preview into the mask source rather then the movie name.
    Thanks
    Rob
