Point taken.
Went for the DSR25 over the 45 (with RS422) because it was multisystem. Guess you can’t have the best of both worlds. Interestingly there’s a thread on this on the Apple site, which mentions a piece of software called ‘Simple Video Out’ that allows you to output your QT with timecode (so you can set your deck up to take in an external TC), which would be a workaround for my problem.
Though nothing beats your suggestion – take it to an online setup. This is generally what I do, as I’m really geared up for offline editing. Just got caught in this project where there was no budget for an online, but the story was well worth doing the edit for.

I get exactly the same problem. Just did a clean intall of Tiger + FCP5 to try to fix it and no luck.
DualG5, Tiger, FCP5 running firewire to DSR25.The pain is that the slip is unpredictable, so you can’t simply offset the camera. Fortunately I don’t master very often to DV, but when I do, I just gotta hit and hope – not so fun when your timeline is 1 hour long.
Did you get a working answer to your original post?

Thanks chaps. There aren’t too many clips, so I’m just dropping the TC filter onto the clips (and trying to see if I can batch export). Probably the best approach, as asking a producer to work out anything beyond a big timecode burnt into the screen is probably asking too much.
Mark – when I open the get info (by clicking the window and command-i, I just get the counter (ie from zero). Is there any way of getting this to display the timecode?

I cut a film in exactly the same way a few projects back. Worked fine. Is the 250GB G5 drive internal? For reasons unknown to me, it’s generally advisable to play your media from an external drive.
One piece of advice: you’ll simplify the relinking (ie you won’t need to) on the other machines if you use identical firewire drives and name them all the same (so that FCP is looking for the media in the same directory). You might want to label them differently externally so you don’t mix them up.
The only thing to watch for is any files (gfx/sfx) that get created on any one of the systems – these will need to be copied to the other drives so that each system has all the media. The other thing is that each system will be creating it’s own render files – I’ve not had a great deal of success relinking these (though you can import them as seperate QTS). Most likely simpler to re-render the files.
If you’ve got the budget, there is most likely a shared-storage solution that would be more efficient, but the seperate systems playing from mirrored firewires worked fine for me.

June 5, 2005 at 3:47 pm in reply to: Playback setting for HD downconvert on Decklink extreme?Try going into systempreferences/decklink, and switching HDTV Up/Down Converter output to SD
Restart computer. The video output in FCP should be set to Blackmagic HDTV 1080 8 bit. (or 720)
Fixed it for me, and even works with HDV.

OK. So FCP5 arrived. Installed. Downloaded the latest blackmagic drivers. I even reseated the blackmagic card in the top slot (“I wonder which will give first – the little black wotsit or the entire motherboard?”).
So several hours later, finally booted the G5 back up and switched the extended desktop back on. No luck – still refreshing at about 2 fps, so completely impractical for file management. Video output working fine.
Does anybody have the extended desktop working with Tiger?
I like the idea of being able to switch between the FCP bins and the video output.

Yeah – I don’t think the decklinkHD card is entirely happy. Another problem I’ve been having with expose windows bouncing back straight away, and a stuttering screensaver, have been fixed by switching the extended display off. The screensaver started stuttering a few days ago (for apparently no unprompted reason, I’m pretty sure it was working OK with Tiger (recently installed) for a short interval, though it could be related).
Anyone have extended desktop working OK with Tiger with DecklinkHD?
Actually, this could be related to my Decklink drivers. Currently running FCP4.5 (FCP5 not arrived in Singapore yet), with Tiger and Decklink 4.8. Can’t download the latest decklink drivers as they’re uncompatable with FCP4.5
Guess I’ll wait till FCP5 arrives, update all the drivers and hope for the best.

I have an only slightly related question –
FCP5 has not yet reached us in deepest darkest Asia (I believe the ponies are on the way). Has anyone tried recapturing speed-effected clips in FCP5? I have high hopes of Apple having fixed the media manager bug that threw crazy timecodes onto decomposed speed clips.
