The direction (i.e. starting point) of the gradient is determined be the ORIGIN parameter under the Replicator Controls.

Which is why you would make an effect from it and simply publish it to FCP with the needed parameters. Anything else won’t work as needed.
Far from absurd. Highly unique and powerful actually. I know of no other NLE that offers that kind or level of integration. Though a “Send to” á la 7 would certainly be a nice addition, yes.

Behaviors don’t publish, no. For (for me) obvious reasons. If you were to publish one, that would require very specific conditions to be met every time you applied it, to have it even work. I.e. it wouldn’t work most of the time, resulting in similar complaints, technically born from PEBKAC. 😉

I’m not actually currently using FCPXTRA. But I have FCP X running on various machines from Mac Minis to Mac Pros, all without “backfire” (whatever that exactly means) issues. Though obviously the latter performs by far the best overall. 😉

The SAND is the last thing I’d be worried about. Flesh tones i.e. humans in general are highly unsuited for luma keys, no matter how much you prep.

There is of course no Motion v10.2, if that’s what you mean. If anything, then 5.2. So the question is if you in fact have BOTH apps updated to their respective, most current versions. Even the slightest difference in concurrent versions will lead to things like this. The most current of both of course being 10.2.1 and 5.2.1. If you’ve only updated the one or the other, that will be your problem.
