Only a 13″ MBP has little in common with an rMBP. No Retina and, worst of all, no dedicated GPU. The cornerstone of performance when it comes to FCP & Co.

If installed on the same system, Motion 4 files will be recognized and treated as movie files in various applications, yes.

I won’t even bother to think about what just a simple *SD* camera of that (vaguely comparable) calibre cost me just a mere 10 years ago. It’s depressing. Them thar young whipper-snappers don’t know what an easy (and cheap!) life they lead, I tell ya!! 😉

Actually, AD would be of no use, since it doesn’t do Motion files, never has. And just on a side note, Wes Plate is (if I’m not mistaken) not with Adobe anymore and is ironically an adamant FCP X editor. Go figure. 😀
If you want the files to remain editable within your NLE (to any degree you wish and exponentially more than in conjunction with 7), FCP X is your only way. Otherwise, yes, you can (only) render them out as clips and use those in whatever other NLE you choose.

No, they can’t. FCP X would be the way to go.

Nope. It’s up to you. I don’t actually know of a single NLE that does that. Unless recent updates of the one or other snuck it in. That’s also what snapshots are for.

Yes, I unfortunately can confirm. FCP is clearly doing something very wrong with the XML. Have reported it.
